There’s also a political dynamic that shows no sign of abating. As Democrats veer more to the left they double down on identity politics. And a predictable consequence of that is it causes [insecure and hateful] whites to behave like a minority bloc. The problem for Democrats there is that whites comprise a clear majority of voters.

That happened in 2016. Van Jones recognized the phenomenon and called it ‘white lash’ or something. And there’s every reason to think it will happen again in 2020.

All of which begs the question of why don’t Democrats moderate?

The reason most Democrats will not moderate is crony capitalism. The rich are calling the shots and it works to their advantage to have the left and right bitterly opposed. That way they are so obsessed with the struggle that they won't realize the rich are extracting so much of their wealth.

Basically, the rich have us fighting one another so we will be distracted as they pick our pockets.
