I just listened to Col Shaffer say that he suspects the Prigozhin is being allowed to live long enough for Russian intel to figure out who else was connected to this treason, and that his life expectancy is not good at all.

That would make sense. Putin doesn’t seem to be the “forgiving” type.
 
The bottom line is that the Wagner mutineers were about to get cancelled by the Chechens, the Russian leadership had made the call that if Prigozhen did not stop immediately then this treason was going to get ended at the business end of weapons of war.

So he stopped.
 
I saw someone , dont remember who, who says that Prigozhen miss calculated, he did not expect given his status of military hero, and the Wagner groups same status, that Putin et all would respond so ruthlessly....just one of many miscalculations he made.
