Yes that's a hoary old chestnut that I've heard many times. We could somehow build modern fighters like the Spitfire and Hurricane, maintain the world's largest navy and manufacture every manner of heavy weapons including tanks, artillery and bombers yet seemingly couldn't make small arms.

Cars are a case in point, all owners must register their cars so they can be traced. So why can't you have a similar system with guns? What is the point of the serial number?

That is untrue; because I can sell a vehicle right now and I don't have to tell anyone and the buyer doesn't need to register it.

No title doesn't mean I can't sell it.
After being sold, the new owner doesn't necessarily mean he needs to register it.
They can still drive it, without it being registered.

I recently purchased a car from Alabama, the owner said there is no "title" in Alabama, the registration (and/or certificate of manufacture) proves ownership.
