US inches closer to change in how presidential elections are counted

No empirical evidence shows large or small states receive any benefit or loss by electoral college.
As if that is of the slightest relevance.

As a price for their approval of The Constitution, states demanded more representation in the national government than population alone would have given them. The result was a House based on population, a Senate with equal representation and an Electoral College having the same number of members as a state's total votes in Congress. The compromise not only helped secure votes of the smaller states at the Constitutional Convention but helped secure them again in the state ratifying conventions that followed. This is basic Constitutional history not "a common belief not borne out by the evidence".

You copied that from somewhere. Cite the source. Did not read it

You are surprised that the GOP doesn't want to violate the Constitution of the United States and all State constitutions like you do?

Ah, yet another strawman.

As for the Constitution, it can be changed, and frequently is, according to whatever fashion strikes the fancy of the SC judges, right or left wing, so you ideologues and fantasists have no room for sniveling.

The Constitution needs to be amended so "the people elect the President."
