It is puzzling to me as well. I don't think that they expect society to take care of them because they're white though. It isn't racial. It's poverty and being content with it. The odd thing to me is that they generally vote for (R)s. We all know that (R)s are far more interested in protecting the wealthy at the expense of the poor and the middle class.

Singapore has no rural areas, and yet they do not starve. The world is full of working farmland. But, the rural unemployed are not working. So New York City could buy where Singapore bought the food, and stop subsidizing rural unemployed.

There is a huge amount of anger first shown in the Alt Right when they call for genocide against urban dwellers, and then shown when it is pointed out that uneducated poor white rural dwellers (the Alt Right base) are not productive. If they really did run all the agriculture, like they claim, they would not be so poor.

Being a farmer actually takes more education than they seem to realize.

I think I have definitely hit a sore spot for them with the reality of their economic position in America.

It is and it is not racial. They do see non-whites as not American. They see urban dwellers, and educated people as not American. And, they think they deserve a good life because they are American. But, they are not willing to work for a better life.

I would agree that they definitely have bought into the myth that urban areas consist of nothing but lazy POC who are all on welfare. Yet when *they* receive benefits, it's because they are entitled to them. Those other ppl? No.

Most of the employed poor that we knew worked very hard. Unfortunately their jobs were minimum wage or a bit above. You can't get ahead on minimum wage, especially in states like Missouri where it is very low. In fact, the (R)s that dominate Missouri's legislature deliberately keep it that way. The people of STL and KC voted a few years back to raise the minimum wage in those two cities to $15/hour (I believe, but it could have been slightly lower). The legislature promptly passed a law forbidding the raising of minimum wage *anywhere* in the state to higher than the state's level. It's now only $8.60. Yet the poor rural whites keep voting for these clowns.
