Ukranian counteroffensive making inroads

"Freedom of speech is a principal pillar of a free government; when this support is taken away, the constitution of a free society is dissolved, and tyranny is erected on its ruins." -

Benjamin Franklin

Yet you hate the West and support both Putin and Xi. Why?

Tulsi is a fucking moron: "Today’s Democratic Party has led us to the brink of nuclear war. The party is led by cowardly warmongers who are firmly in the grips of the military industrial complex, and don’t know or care about the cost of war, or who pays the price."

The MIC conspiracy theory died after the Cold War. Tulsi is 30 years out of date.

ya you have been extensively lied to about Ukraine but here is the thing....you were supposed to be bright enough to figure out when power is lying to you.

Many Russians seem to believe that even if it was wrong to start the war, it would be a mistake to allow Russia to be defeated.

However, members of the Russian elite seem to share the growing unease aired among the milbloggers. On May 20-21, Russian officials and policy experts attended a meeting of the influential Council on Foreign and Security Policy think tank. Judging by reports from people who attended, such as State Duma Deputy Konstantin Zatulin, there was a clear sense that the war is going badly.

In a June 1 speech, Zatulin, a prominent nationalist lawmaker, noted that none of the initial goals of the “special operation” have been realized and admitted that “Ukrainians hate us because we are killing them."

Yeah, the US thought the same thing in the mid to late 60s. The more body bags that come home, the more dissent will grow. There's a reason why GW Bush didn't want the picture below published and called it treasonous to show it.

Nobody wins a nuclear war. The vast majority of the rich, powerful and educated know this to be true. It's one thing to watch your leader rant and make threats. It's another to see him inching toward the nuclear button. IIRC, most of Russia's wealthy have their assets outside of Russia.

LOL on Zatulin's victory speech. Basically, he's looking for the Nixonian "Peace with Honor"; retreating but proclaiming victory and "time to go home". To make that work, they need to pull out all the way to pre-invasion status. If they ask for a ceasefire or any negotiations, everyone will know they are losing.

I think the fantasies of using tactical nukes among the rightwing Russian nationalists is a sign of weakness.

18 months after a global military superpower invaded a second rate European nation, Russia still only controls 18 percent of Ukraine and has achieved none of the objectives Putin established on February 23, 2022.

Zelensky is never going to surrender.

Ukrainians are willing to take body blows rather than submit.

It's between a rock and a hard place for Vlad Putin.

Agreed. False bravado. Like white supremacist Trumpers displaying their weapons on State courthouse steps. The problem is that such stupid people are dangerous. The good news is, as previously mentioned, those with something to lose are richer, more powerful and saner.

Putin has proved to be his own worst enemy; he gutted his own army for profit and now started a war with a gutted army. I truly believe that Putin is irrational. His paranoia about COVID is part of the evidence.

Agreed on Zelensky, but not just him, but the Ukrainian people. There's a relationship between the strength of the leaders and the strength of the society. Zelensky is a good leader. His reply about needing a ride will be remembered for decades if not centuries. Still, no matter how great a leader or their comments, if the people don't want to fight, they won't. Russia is finding this out with their own soldiers in Ukraine.

An effective military is not just bodies. It's also training, supply, leadership and moral. There are other factors, but those cover ones clearly missing in the Russian Army. I have no doubt the Russian people are as brave as any other...when defending their own homes. To conquer other people's lands requires a lot more than the willingness to die for one's home. The Ukrainians love their land and are willing to fight for it. I think most Americans would do the same, but I wonder about those who wouldn't because they have nothing to lose.

Vlad needs to become a hero of the Revolution by taking a short flight out of a 10th story hospital window.

The Silent Slaughter of the Flower of Ukraine’s Youth | Common Dreams
An article with the same name as the title of this thread was published on Common Dreams yesterday, by 2 authors I've become fairly familiar with over the course of the Ukraine war. I thought it was quite interesting and thought others might like to take a look at perhaps make a constructive comment or 2. Quoting the introduction and the final paragraph below:..../

The Silent Slaughter of the Flower of Ukraine’s Youth | Common Dreams

Putin is a mass murderer of Ukrainian youth. Russian leadership should toss his psychotic ass out a 10-story window and stop the mass murder by withdrawing all Russian forces.

Why would Russia want a ceasefire when they are winning?

The only way for this to end is for Ukraine to capitulate
You're obviously the type of person that believes fighting for freedom and sovereignty isn't worth the risk of death and pain. Clearly, you and some of your fellow MAGAs would quickly surrender and submit to a superior armed force and in the face of adversity.

Your beliefs and your soft, cushy life experience are generally not reflected in the people of the East Slavic countries. They are born and raised on a steady and relentless diet of the necessity of sacrifice to defend the motherland against foreign Invaders. You can't throw a rock there without hitting a memorial to the great sacrifices made in repelling the Nazis.

These countries don't have a Rhine River, an Alps moutain range, an English Channel, or Atlantic Ocean serving as a geographic barrier to invasion. The steppes of Eastern Europe can be easily and effortlessly penetrated and traversed by Mongol Calvary, French legionaries, or Nazi tanks. Lacking geographic defenses, the East Slavs knew it was always going to be up to their fortitude and tenacity to discourage invaders.
Tink supports authoritarian states like Russia. It's why she supports Trump to make the US like Russia, China and North Korea.

Yeah, Putin tells the truth, and American politicians lie. I hope you understand that Putin attacked a country that did not attack him. Putin is trying to recreate the Soviet Empire.

He does, and he has been very careful in Ukraine unlike the West, which China and most of the world appreciate.
