Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday that while Ukraine was not eager to have a dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin, his country has to face the reality that communication will likely be needed to end the war.

"There are things to discuss with the Russian leader. I'm not telling you that to me our people are eager to talk to him, but we have to face the realities of what we are living through," he said in an address.

"What do we want from this meeting … We want our lives back ... We want to reclaim the life of a sovereign country within its own territory," he said.

On Thursday, the Kremlin said that it expects Ukraine to accept Russia's demands and "the understanding of the real situation that exists de-facto."

Russia's assault on Ukraine has not let up and its military on Friday pounded the last Ukrainian strongholds in a separatist-controlled eastern province of Ukraine.
 
he's gonna have to accept Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic.
Putin is going to have to accept Russia isn't going to get control of the Dnieper.

But there is still the Black Sea coast line. Odesa stays Ukrainian ( they need a port)
bit the rest goes to Russia

Donbas is just about gone Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk will fall and that's it for Luhansk & Donetsk

The US can't be involved in talks -we are too bellicose. Some NATO nation or EU has to step up for talks

Let Russia have the responsibility of rebulding those areas. They're the hardest hit. Like I said earlier this could/should be similar to the outcome of the Winter War with Finland.

He can't but at least end the fighting now. The war is not going well for Ukraine in Donetsk and Luhansk . Do you really see Ukraine getting those areas back anytime soon without wiping them off the earth?

lol. Zelensky is getting beaten in Donbas. Putin got beaten in the push for Kyiv
Putin gets Donbas and the land route to Crimea, at great cost.

Zelensky gets a shattered nation ( as he says in the OP)

so when they accept this -they'll talk -as to your question Putin can't make a putsch again to Kyiv

now get someone sane ( I never thought i'd say this) like Erdogan to mediate and end this

They might if sanctions are dropped but they aint got the money even if they wanted to

It's the same thing in Syria -why I always said just get out and let Russia have that rubble

He added that if the Russian president "understands reality" there was the possibility of finding a diplomatic way out of the conflict.

Zelenskiy, speaking to an audience at the World Economic Forum in Davos, also said that Ukraine would fight until it recovered all of its territory.

The Ukrainian president said that Moscow should withdraw its troops back to the lines in place before Russia began its invasion on Feb. 24.

"That might be a first step towards talks," he said, adding that Russia has been playing for time in its talks with Ukraine.
