U.S. Women’s Hockey Team Turns Down Trump Invite to State of the Union

The Founding Fathers could not have imagined someone like trump, so it might take a while to deal with him.
The Founders are fully aware of immoral, dishonest and evil people. Our three branches of government were designed as a tripod to prevent one branch from dominating the other. What they did not foresee is that Congress would abdicate their role and punt to SCOTUS or, as they are doing now, giving all the power to the President. The Founders didn't imagine Congress would support a King.

Now Trump is, once again, exceeding his authority as President and putting the nation at war with Iran without the authorization of Congress, but to the applause of all MAGAts in Congress.

Americans will be killed abroad and it's possible that Iran will strike the American homeland. Since Trump has weakened the FBI, the Iranians might be able to pull it off.

Really? Athletes have the right to turn down things like this. If they don't want to be a vain instrument in some politician's speech, they don't have to. It goes doubly if the invite is backhanded and demeaning. Fuck Trump, maybe if he acted like an adult.
Duh. You have a right to make poor decisions everywhere all the time, even for foolish reasons like this. This would not change the disappointment I stated I would feel.

That's only your opinion. Distancing yourself from controversial figures in your professional life is always a good idea. It's the choice of sanity and peace.

Well, I cannot express your opinion, it isn't mine. On a site where we give our opinions telling me that what I stated was my opinion is like saying I spoke using words.

They were individual decisions. Why would you feel disappointed if your teammates didn't want to go eat Big Macs with a misogynistic suspected-pedophile/sex trafficker?

Some people would trade their morals and/dignity for fame and fortune. It's a classic Faustian bargain every person faces at one time or another.

It's considered common sense that if you associate or hang around with unscrupulous or controversial people, their dirt is going to rub off on you. How that plays out has many factors. Lawyers and various other professionals often advise against it.

They were not. If there were individual decisions then some would go, others would not.

Incorrect. One team made the "choice" for every member on the team.
Are you referencing the men's team or the women's team? Regardless, I doubt they could or would it it. As mentioned, five of the men refused to go.

Is there a link to women team members complaining they were forced into not going?

It's easy to look up why the men who chose to not attend chose not to .. The reasons weren't political... Looks like the women's team captain made the decision....( They were invited on the twenty third....)
