People went to protest a stolen election. FBI instigators promoted actions that were illegal. Capitol police attacked peaceful protesters and incited violence.
After two years of Kristallnacht - protesters expected repercussions similar to what the democrat Brown Shirts of Antifa and BLM had received. The idea that the they would be imprisoned for decades for protesting the Reich never occured to them.
But now we know, liberty is over in Americ - the Reich is in control - protest was a feature of free America - of the old Republic under the Constitution that democrats have ended.

First off, no protester interacted with any elected person durign the Reichstag Fire - the notion that protesters were "threatening" anyone is a fabrication by the J6 showtrial.
Let me ask you, what is "insurrection?" Is it opposition to the goals and power of the democrat Reich? Is that the meaning?
For instance, if men armed with AK47's and AR-15's entered US territor and declared it soveriegn territory - no longer part of the USA, assaulting police, killing 8 and raping 19 people, then holding the territory through force of arms for 10 days, would that be insurrction? Or is insurrection ONLY opposition to the goals and power of the democrat Reich?
Should the leaders of such actions have faced any sort of arrest or prosecution? 8 dead - 19 raped - massive looting and property damage - yet Wray and his thugs said "no harm no foul." No one taken to the DC Gulag - only those who oppose the democrat Reich will be arrested.
