Trump thumped! Cruz celebrates with a kiss after stunning Iowa victory t

I must admit that I thought Trump had it in the bag! I guess this is the American version of trompe-l'œil. Trump-l'œil if you will, the art of turning a 2D cardboard cut-out into a seemingly three dimensional person.

  • Ted Cruz emerged victorious in the Republican Iowa Caucus
  • Celebrating in an emotional embrace with wife Heidi, Cruz hailed the religious vote in a celebratory speech
  • Meanwhile a dejected Trump clan joined The Donald on stage as he said he was 'honored' by the result and vowed to fight on in New Hampshire
  • The Trump campaign will now also be looking to Marco Rubio whose surprise Iowa surge nearly left The Donald in third place
  • Democrat Martin O'Malley and Republican Mike Huckabee announced they were ending their campaigns
  • On the Democratic side, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton and current Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders were running neck-and-neck with no result declared
  • Hillary Clinton had less than a half-percentage-point lead on Bernie Sanders when she thanked Iowans for the win, but Sanders wasn't ready to throw in the towel

Sealed with a kiss: Heidi Cruz congratulates her husband on stage at the end of his lengthy victory speech, which quoted the Psalms

Poor Trump lol. It'll be interesting to see how he reacts to it.

That said, the electoral grave yard is full of Iowa causcus winners. Howard Dean, anyone lol? There's a long way to go. Rubio showed pretty strong too.

I'll take any of the three.

Actually people are minimizing Cruz's win

1) Iowa's popular governor came out against him hard and he still won
2) Cruz came out against ethanol long considered political suicide in Iowa and still won
3) Cruz got hit hard by Trump in the last two weeks and still won. Remember Trump took out Jeb and Carson and Carly.
4) Cruz got attacked by the GOP establishment that said the prefer Trump to Cruz

This was a very impressive win by Cruz

A strong second place in New Hampshire and a win in South Carolina is what Cruz needs

Cruz is in good shape after Iowa but so was Rick Santorum in 2008. A win in Iowa is just that, it's a win in Iowa.

Over on the democrats side they're in a hell of a shape lol. If the republicans manage to blow this one we're screwed.

This is just the beginning. The Don has many more political failures ahead of him. And whomever the puke nominee might be they have a big one awaiting!!!!!!!!

On the GOP side, the three candidates to emerge were the three candidates expected to emerged. The shake up was that Cruz stole Trumps thunder.

But on the democrats side of things- Hillary lost. I know she basically tied as far as numbers go, but that's the loss- Hillary tied with a 70 year old Socialist from Vermont.

Politically I wanted to see Trump win because he is the least conservative...

Personally I really enjoyed watching Trump, who hates losers, lose.... I enjoyed his short and buthurt speech.

I am concerned about Rubio's emergence, his politics are bad, he's got an angry edge, and he could win.

Actually there is no comparison to Santorum. Santorum had no money and no organization coming out of Iowa. Cruz does

While I agree with this, I think he has organization but no mass appeal, for the most part, outside of Iowa.

I think Trump will now implode and the big question is where will his supporters go?

everyone hates cruze

he has no chance

Besides the American people don't pick Ugly candidates

Ugly people very rarely get elected

Dean lost Iowa. Kerry won, and Edwards took second place. His defeat was much like Trump's, where he came in as the proclaimed leader with mass internet organization and a full head of steam. Then he behaved like a jackass the entire time he was in Iowa, and drove enough people away that he tanked it.

ITs not a comparison to Santorum, Cruz is more intelligent and built a better campaign, hes just not very likeable, and ultimately to radical for nationwide appeal.

Cruz isn't very warm and fuzzy- He reminds me of a cross between Johnson and Nixon- can't shake it.
