You don't have to fight against something that doesn't apply to you.

NEW YORK — The 50th-floor apartment in Trump Tower where a man was killed in a raging fire did not have sprinklers — a requirement Donald Trump once fought as a powerful real estate developer.
Todd Brassner, 67, died at a hospital on Saturday after a fire ripped through his apartment in the high-rise, which opened in 1983 at a time when building codes did not require the residential section to have sprinklers.
Subsequent updates to the codes required commercial skyscrapers to install sprinklers retroactively, but owners of older residential high-rises are not required to install them unless the building undergoes major renovations.

Some fire safety advocates pushed for a requirement that older apartment buildings be retrofitted with sprinklers when the city passed a law requiring them in new residential high-rises in 1999, but officials in the administration of then-mayor Rudolph Giuliani said that would be too expensive.
Trump was among the developers who spoke out against the retrofitting as unnecessary and expensive.

Betcha *his* suite/apartment/home/whatever has them, as well as his offices.

Might as well give it up, racist POS. Unread, and I don't peek.

A property owner fought against something that would cost him money? You don't say?

Since he wasn't an elected official, I don't see what the point is? There are millions of people who do the same thing. It's yet another example of the left trying to pile on to a mound so high we can't even see the top.

Something that, by code, doesn't involve said property owner doesn't involve a fight. That would be like going to traffic court if you didn't get a ticket.

What do they have to do with Trumps fire? That is the theme here. But there were laws passed that were supposed to force apartment owners to install them. i am sure many of them were happy to do it. Trump has high, overpriced units. it would be easier for him. He claims to be a billionaire. But Trump only cares about himself and money.

Can you name an example of one building that was not required by law to put sprinklers in their building that did in NYC?

I hope it’s a wake up call and they sue the owners of the buildings to install sprinklers or have the sense to install them themselves. I wouldn’t live above the 19th floor in a death trap.

There is no legal grounds to sue as the building is up to code. Further, the buyers, I'm sure we're aware of this fact when purchasing the units. Since this guy was an art collector, isn't it possible he chose a building without sprinklers because he thought they would damage his art?

Also, I'm highly suspicious of the cause of this fire, but will wait for NYFD to inform us.

Either the codes require sprinkler be installed or they don't. I'm not real sure on what grounds Phantasmal believes someone can sue.

what a stupid thing to say

if they fight putting in sprinklers and someone dies they are just as guilty as trump

Trump isn't guilty of anything. The guy CHOSE to live in the building, even after supposedly saying he hated Trump and wanted to move out. But he didn't, he stayed and assumed the risk, and maybe he started the fire on purpose.

Fire also damages art.
