I am a bit more in the middle on this one. The Saudis have drawn legitimacy from supporting extremist religious positions both at home and abroad. Their ideology has a lot of responsibility for 9/11. It is not magic that Saudi Arabians were so involved in 9/11.

That is not even close to being true. FDR had two different Presidential Yachts: USS Potomac, and the USS Williamsburg. THe USS Potomac was first purchased by the Coast Guard, then transferred to the Navy, and finally used by as the Navy's Presidential yacht. USS Williamsburg was bought from Chisholm(a Democrat) by the US Navy, and was converted into the Navy's Presidential yacht.

Both were bought at a fair price, and neither was bought from Sewell. Sewell's yacht was used in anti-submarine warfare, as were many other yachts of its smaller size. Being wind powered, they were thought to be able to sneak up on submarines.

Most yacht owners immediately loaned their yachts to the US Navy/Coast Guard. It was a time that you could watch American ships being sunk from the beaches. They were not legally allowed to use them anyway, given the coasts were designated war zones. Some hid their yachts in Cuba, which Sewell was trying to do.

It's still not enough. It has to borrow to make ends meet, and so adds to the debt.

Social security is the 2nd largest budget in the U.S. government.
Servicing the debt (not paying it off, just the interest payments) is now the 4th largest budget in the U.S. government.

Saudi Arabia is introducing taxes now, but before recently, Saudi Arabians did not have to pay any taxes. They did have to prove they donated to charities. Many of the charities supported spreading Wahhabism, which basically is what Al Qaeda supports. Before 9/11, the main source of money for Al Qaeda was Saudi Arabian charities.

McVeigh was not working for the government when he bombed the Oklahoma Federal building.

Technically, McVeigh was a US Government employee at the time of the bombing. In 1988, McVeigh enlisted in the US Army for an 8 year commitment. In 1995, he was in the Individual Ready Reserves, which technically made him a US Government employee. In the jargon of the time, he got his teeth cleaned at US taxpayer expense.

More importantly, McVeigh was a product of American culture. Any culture will produce a few lunatics, but we seem to produce more lunatics than most first world countries. We need to have some thought into why that is.
