Hello Robo,
Truths are usually absurd to the lefties!!!
That kind of stereotyping prevents having an objective view.
Where can you report they do it for another reason?
The biggest need for doctors is for GPs. That is the demand which needs to be filled. There are not enough General Practice doctors to serve our growing nation. But the majority of people who go through medical school don't want to fill that demand because it doesn't pay as much. Specialists get paid more. So that's what students go after. Nuff said. We get the picture. They are in it for the money and the prestige, not treating people or practicing medicine.
Actually, Most of Americas finest surgeons get paid by the operation, and I know of noplace on earth where surgeons don’t get paid for failed operations, do you?
The goal should be a good health outcome for the patients, not one that rewards doctors for performing more operations. Capitalism is just wrong for health care. It's not like somebody who needs open heart surgery is going to get up and go driving around from ER to ER checking out the prices. The basic free market model is simply wrong for health care. Pricing and wages for health care workers should be determined by the system according to what's reasonable for people with that much training. Capitalism has no reason to set up this system so it has to be done by government.
We have a lot of work to do. We have to transform our health care system. The primary consideration should be a good health outcome for the patients; and the secondary priority should be keeping the cost as low as possible; while still making sure the workers are fairly rewarded for their dedication. There is no room in an efficient properly goal-oriented health care system for profit-taking. That has to end. Nobody needs to be getting fabulously rich by doing the work of administering health care. They should simply make a good living according to their value to the system.
Now you say the goal IS to have a good patient health outcome, I know. And I disagree. Here's the thing. What we are doing is not working very well. We are a sick nation. Capitalism and consumerism have made us sick. That's the reason health care costs so much. It's because the demand is so high. It's because we Americans get so sick and we need so many operations and drugs. That causes the payment system (currently the for-profit insurance industry) to have to make more payments, bigger payments. Look around. Unhealthy overweight people everywhere, we not taking good care of ourselves. Capitalism has no reason to do anything about that. Capitalism CAUSED it. All this high pressure marketing hype telling people to buy and consume. And often the products are unhealthy. The profit makers fight like hell against a well informed populace because the profiteers don't want people to stop buy unhealthy things. They're making money making America sick!
We don't need a trouble-shooting and repair type of health care system, ready to come riding to the rescue when you get sick. We need a proactive health care system aimed at preventing people from getting sick in the first place. 70% of America doesn't even know drinking alcohol increases cancer risk. Where are the surgeons protesting in the street for a better outcome like the teachers do when education has been cut to the knee? Many doctors are grossly overpaid, do they are not protesting anything. They will just shut up and take the money. Most Americans eat too much red meat, too many processed foods, don't have a balanced diet, don't eat enough vegetables, don't have a wide variety of basic healthy whole foods. And we don't exercise enough. We are too addicted to media devices. Kids don't go outside and play enough, don't have PE in school any more. Child diabetes is now big. It's ridiculous. And the marketing hype just looks the other way, still pushing the big gulp sodas, the giant package of junk chips. We even elected a president who glorifies unhealthy habits. What a sick nation.
Our health care system is complacent in all of this, greased by corrupt big money from the beef industry and the milk industry. Even our own government recommended diet is unhealthy, anything but properly balanced, too much red meat, not enough vegetables and salad, not enough variety. Red meat raises the risk of heart disease. The link is clear and well known. Why is it even on the government recommended diet? The AMA is complicit, too. Have they finally admitted that alcohol raises the cancer risk? This has been known about for a long time. People are dying to make others rich. The AMA once said it was a healthy habit to have two drinks a day, preferably red wine. Have they changed that recommendation yet?
No. The goal is NOT currently the best health for patients. That comes somewhere down the list after profit-taking and the key people getting rich.
