I just don’t recall Republicans and the teachers unions giving Obama a lot of flak about it. Even though the risks to kids was *known* at the time.
And why are teachers ‘special’? Why should they get to be paid to stay home while so many other ‘essential’ workers aren’t able to?

Here are the facts. CDC issued guidelines in late April recommending schools close for 7 days when a case was identified, that was changed to 14 days in early May. Over 700 schools did close for some period of time after the initial recommendation. In August, the CDC revised guidelines to recommend that schools not close unless there was a significant outbreak in the school, or the students were more at risk. They issued specific guidelines on how schools should handle any reported cases.
Contrast that to the blanket claim by our resident genius that 'closing schools was not even on the radar'. Obama got it right. Trump is a disaster. Next?

Yes, local outbreaks cause local schools to close. Global pandemics cause schools to close globally. That is how it works.
Now that things are getting under control in Europe, people are reasonably planning to carefully open schools. With things completely out of control in America, trump is ordering schools to reopen without any care. It is terrible.
One post Darth Omar claims no one was even talking about closing schools, and the next he complains that only schools were closed locally... Like they are now. trump did not order schools closed, but he wants to order them open.
Obama did not push to open schools, so the answer is no. He let local officials decide the dangers, and gave reasonable guidance.
Again, you have to defend trump demanding to open schools in places where disease transmission is completely out of control.
Obama did not get flak for something he did not do. trump gets flak for doing what Obama never did.
No one should be working right now. We should all be in a lockdown and essential workers should get hazard pay and regular testing.
Teachers have just as much as a right to not get infected with COVID as anyone else, and had you and Trump responded responsibly to this crisis, we wouldn't be in this position today.

You know that the moment Trump is gone, every single one of them are going to be struck with the same curious case of amnesia that afflicted them the day Obama was inaugurated, compelling them to staple teabags to their faces, and then posture about debt and birth certificates.
Should Trump lose, which seems likely, expect a bevy of new accounts on JPP created in the weeks and month following the election. These accounts will posture sudden concern for the debt and deficit, and the ID's/socks we have been accustomed to seeing the last two years will vanish.
But the thing is, it will be very easy to determine who the new accounts are because Conservatives are not good at playing pretend.
They will all deny they ever supported Trump. They will call him a Democrat. But they will all -and I mean all- fall back into the same bad habits they developed under their current personas and characters.
