I 100% believe that some people are born into bodies that contradict what their minds are telling them in terms of gender.
Just think about that on its own. That alone would be an incredible challenge to try to navigate.
But we compound those challenges with campaigns of hate & intolerance, and everyday bigotry. Over 40% of trans youth are bullied and ostracized. I know a family who has someone transitioning, and they're actually pretty conservative Republicans - but they're supportive of the choice being made. And why wouldn't they be - why would they want a family member to live a lie, and try to pretend to be something they don't believe in their mind & heart?
The memes, the boycotts, the demolition of cases of beer - these things just add to the challenges that these families have to deal with every day. Life is hard enough. Why do we feel a need to make it harder for anyone, just because we don't understand something, or can't relate to it ourselves? Live & let live, as long as your own rights aren't being infringed upon. Err on the side of kindness, not hostility.
