i disagree....
the breach was obama's....US president's do not bow like that to foreign heads of state...obama is the first...if it was protocol, other presidents would have bowed as he did....
i think the japanese emporer knew this, hence why he took his hand and did not bow, he most likely didn't expect obama to bow and to bow so deeply....
and we can see, that obama does know what it means as he basically gave a polite, not subserviant, bow to the emporess

further, the video clearly shows that emporer did not even make a head bow...obama bowed low and was subservient in doing so

I did see those photos, and again video would be helpful. With the Pope it is obvious they bowed equally, but with the others a still shot doesn't make it clear. It is my contention that it is far more likely (Generals being creatures of protocol) that he understood exactly what he was doing, and that he bowed equally therefore, than it is he was constantly showing subservience to other nations.

Yet this thread started with pics of Ike bowing to Charles de Gaulle (aka head of state), so where does that leave your theory that Obama was the first?
It's not our protocol to hold hands or kiss other leaders either, but bush did so out of respect for the Saudi king. Were you just as outraged or is this just another Obama shot?
