The President Bows . . .

Do you seriously not comprehend the difference in their culture of the extent of a bow?

Someone above posted a brief description of the different levels. Try reading it.

Well, the source was about as clear as mud. On the one hand, a deep bow is used on formal occasions, such as a meeting of the President of the United States and the Emperor of Japan. On the other hand, a deep bow is indicative of subservience.

I could argue that Obama's deep bow was a formal bow but then I'd get a counter-argument that it was actually the bow of a subservient. I'd rather just cut to the chase and decide that anyone actually arguing the merits of the President's bow is a fucking crazy person and leave it at that.

Because we're in recovery & Obama's policies are working so well, they have to attack a bow.

Desperation is setting in...

I could care less about the bow, but Dung is displaying complete ignorance to pretend the level of the bow makes no difference. Each level conveys a different message. So it does matter to their culture.

That said, I would hardly suggest we are in a recovery. The artificial stop gap they used is only going to delay the pain. There wasn't a long term solution in anything they have done thus far. They did stop the bleeding for the short term, but have yet to address the long term problems.

They need to re-implement the uptick rule and Glass Steagall... NOW.

They need to CREATE jobs. While jobs is a lagging indicator, you have to give business a reason to believe the economy is improving in order for them to start hiring again. Thus far they have done nothing in that regard.

The bows should be equal because they are equals, they are both heads of state. Of course, in the great big scheme of things it really isn't all that important, other than showing him to be too eager. It doesn't suddenly make the Emperor have power or anything, it doesn't make the Queen of England suddenly have power, or the Pope, or that dude in Saudi Arabia, etc.

and you accuse me of lying....you don't have anything to offer lately but lies, you know the above is not true, but you can't actually rationally discuss the obama's bow, so you make stupid falsehoods which you stupidly believe helps your side....it doesn't, it just shows the dems have obama derangement syndrome and since they can't defend him, need to make shit up

How embarassing; you don't understand the German "112 year" rule, and you're here trying to argue international protocol.

Better bone up on the mores regarding unwanted massages...

why is obama the first to bow like that when meeting the emporer? if it is "custom"....why have no other presidents bowed like that?

When dealing with a head of state, the bow should at most be done on an equivalent basis. I agree it is silly to argue about the photo. Because we do not (at least I don't) know how the emperor preceded Obama's bow or succeeded it. The two should have been relatively the same at most.

Get used to every little nuance of Obama being nitpicked. The left was obnoxious as hell about doing it to Bush and now the far right is enjoying their turn.

just because you have obama derangement syndrome (system is a new one...) that you always defend him no matter what....

despite US protocol that US presidents do no bow to foreign leaders and despite that fact that the depth of a bow does in fact mean something....only proves you playing the hack here....you keep running away from the fact that the depth does matter....and you know that since you can't produce any other president doing it all you can do glibly declare that anyone who doesn't agree with your incorrect view of bows needs to get a grip...

(yawn)

Its also U.S. Protocal that U.S. Presidents dont kiss other men on the lips, but that did not stop bush!!!

absolutely true...but it does give the impression that he is ceding power....

the guy made the same guffaw last april, you would think he wouldn't make it again...so one must ask....is this on purpose?

My question to you would be... do you know that Obama bowed first? If so, did the Emperor return it at the same level? If the Emperor bowed first, then Obama was right to follow suit.

yeah...the president, who represents the United States of America, breaking precedent by bowing deeply in a sign of submission to foreign leaders means nothing....

he was already shaking his hand, there was no need for the bow, it was essentially obama submitting the US to the emperor of Japan

I know, I saw the Jap. troops coming across the border this morning.... WE are now a colony to Japan... What a loss!

I don't know, somebody who would bring the queen an iPod with the "Best of Obama's Speeches" on it could certainly be that uncouth.

Where was the outrage when Bush massaged the German Chancellor's shoulders?

Everyone knows that in Germany, if you massage the shoulders, it means you cede military prowess to the recipient for 112 years (unless it's a leap year, when it would be 111 years)....

where was the outrage? Are you kidding? The left mocked him mercilessly for doing so.

True, and he should bow to the same level, which would make it a further bow for him than for the Emperor. A video would be helpful.

not true....

oh and i see all you have is "bush did it too"....

I dont care what Bush did, other than it being funny! I only pointed it out because it shows the hypocracy of the Obama haters!

i've heard or read nothing to suggest that...if it was equal bow with the emporer first, then presumbly its fine....but i find it odd that no one would have mentioned it....i heard tom hartman on the radio this morning talking about it and he never mentioned that....he solely mentioned that the japanese people approve of it because obama understood their culture and respected their culture by bowing to the emporer as they do....

do you agree obama broke centuries old protocol of not bowing to foreign heads of state?
