No - the standards are the same as in the rest of the UK. The problems caused by toryism are felt more powerfully in communities from whom they have stolen most, obviously.

Read up on the Boston Tea Party. It was all about revenue and taxes. Not one person was harmed in any way.

IOW, they were being taxed, they had to pay, yet no one spoke for them. Taxation without representation.

TAXATION without representation was the slogan. Point being that if there were representation, taxation would not be onerous. Over taxation is always the problem with government you moron.
 
It was also about becoming an American identity - English identity wasn't useful; but the organizing force was taxation withou representation.
