The Mamdani Moments

Amazing how some people are so anxious to show scorn for efforts to make life a bit fairer in a country as wealthy as ours. THAT is another thing the rich have going for them...morons willing to help them become even richer while insuring that the less fortunate don't get any more of the total wealth than possible.

You two should be particularly ashamed of yourselves, because you are both intelligent enough to see the pitfall this bullshit is creating. Neither of you is truly part of the absurdly stupid people who want to see this happen.

But you have a right to celebrate that Mamdani may well not see success in what he is attempting. Much, much better in your eyes to see that the rich will continue to get richer and own increasing larger shares of the total wealth. I mean...fuck the poor! Right?
Nothing... NOTHING Mamdani is doing will make life "fairer" for anyone. All it will do is fuck things up more. That's the nature of Socialism.

Actually, the first several rounds were outstanding. But, as always, I started experimenting with the swing...and things hiave gone downhill. (Actually got a lesson in transition from a video of Trump. He has an excellent transition method, and it is helping)

I get what you are saying here , CA...and you are correct. But my response was as directed toward the tone of his post as to the specifics...and to the tone rather than specifics of people like him. I suspect he realizes that...and much of the stuff he said was said to elicit that kind of response.

I am wishing Mamdani luck in what he is attempting. I suspect that getting some of that wealth away from the very wealthy is part of the solution to the over-all problem.
People put themselves first to one degree or another. What Mamdani is doing, what Socialism does, is force altruism--

al·tru·ism
[ˈaltrʊɪz(ə)m]
noun
altruism (noun)
  1. selfless concern for the well-being of others, without care for one's own interests; unselfishness:

--on people who don't see it as altruistic. Instead of people responding by accepting having this forced on them, they respond by finding ways to avoid it. That's just human nature.

If you want a "fairer" system, then increase reliance on personal responsibility rather than use government to play Robin Hood.

It is my opinion that you are all wrong on this. BUT...we will see how things go.

You keep saying that, but you can't prove it beyond parroting maga rhetoric.
Tell us, gumby ... how has 30 years if reaganomics worked out for the country?

For the sake of discussion let me ask you this. I don't know that you're a registered Democrat but you are liberal politically. For those who want change it was there for taking in 2016 (and 2020) with Bernie. Being in the Bay I hear a number of progressive voices who think many Democrats are little more than Republican lite.

What do you think is holding back Democrats from giving stronger backing to Bernie and AOC types?

You hit it! The establishment DEMS are Republican light. That's because many are beholden to the same corporate and AIPAC donors.

Frightened timidity, disguised in their own minds as moderation and caution. Moderation and overcautiousness will never mitigate the malaise in which we're now drowning. If mainstream members of my party are incapable of growing a pair, they may as well be MAGAts themselves.

These times absolutely require RADICAL change to reconstruct sane civilization, but does anybody see any signs of it coming? I wish that I did.

It's interesting observing San Francisco politics. On one hand everyone is united against Trump (and Republicans). But when it comes to local issues people call it a blood sport.

You have the more pro-tech, pro building more housing type liberals and then you have your progressives/democratic socialists who are much more skeptical of tech/AI, market rate housing, corporations etc.

And as I wrote elsewhere as liberal as this City is, we still haven't elected a progressive (by S.F. standards) as Mayor for 35 years. If we can't do that here, it shows why its been a challenge nationally.

I'm afraid that it does.

For the sake of discussion, I'm sure plenty of people who supported Obama, Clinton, Biden and Harris will tell you they are progressive and want change (I list those four people but it works for the Senate, House, Governorships and Mayors as well).

But if the goal is real change, or revolution as Bernie likes to say, they're not really it. What would it take to get those folks to move more into the Bernie/AOC camp? (and I recognize if there was an easy answer to that it would have already been implemented)

Communism isn't 'fairer', Doofan. It's just theft of wealth.
