The Mamdani Moments

Here's a little butt burner for our resident Maga/Alt-Right folk who talked all types of guff about NYC's first openly Socialist Democrat MUSLIM mayor ... how he would destroy NYC with all his "communist-sharia law" policies. Read the following:

Good luck with that.

My prediction is he gets less than half that $500 million on second homes of the rich and his budget is a fantasy in practice.

If I were really rich and had a second home that was going to be taxed, I'd "sell" it to a corporation I own that was in another state and then "rent" it to myself when I stay there instead of owning. Now, Mamdani gets ZERO tax benefit as the second home is owned by an out of state corporation. Sure, the other state gets some small tax benefit (because I picked a low corporate tax state) but that's nothing compared to dodging Mamdani's tax.

The rich didn't get rich by being idiots. But any idiot can be a tax the rich socialist. Socialists always wonder why their tax the rich schemes fail...

Amazing how some people are so anxious to show scorn for efforts to make life a bit fairer in a country as wealthy as ours. THAT is another thing the rich have going for them...morons willing to help them become even richer while insuring that the less fortunate don't get any more of the total wealth than possible.

You two should be particularly ashamed of yourselves, because you are both intelligent enough to see the pitfall this bullshit is creating. Neither of you is truly part of the absurdly stupid people who want to see this happen.

But you have a right to celebrate that Mamdani may well not see success in what he is attempting. Much, much better in your eyes to see that the rich will continue to get richer and own increasing larger shares of the total wealth. I mean...fuck the poor! Right?

Translation: faced with the facts and logic of the article that destroyed previous nay sayer predictions, TA concocts the usual wish list of supposition and conjecture to treat as an inevitable fact. Classic insipid maga mook stubbornness

They're just carrying the philosophical water bucket for the magat cause. Like their Cheeto Jeezus, the must NEVER admit error on any level in spite of reality.

No. I want no free rides for anyone, rich or poor. Flat tax......EVERYONE pays the same rate. Never happen though,....far too many crooks on both the right and the left.

That's a load you just shoveled. "Free ride" is the usual lie defenders/water carriers of the status quo use to slander any social services for the working class. The topic and story detail of this thread is anything but. GTFU and deal with it.

First off, your opening guess work is wrong unless you can factually prove otherwise. Secondly, your podcast link is just typical maga propaganda that's a say late and a dollar short. Observe and learn:

What's up Taichi, it's been a minute. As a New Yorker you're closer to this than I am, but I've followed this somewhat from a distance and must admit I'm struggling to understand the point here.

I've seen those on the right and more moderate Dems push back against some of Mamdani's proposals, including projections in his budget.

When politicians put together budgets they're making assumptions. There's no guarantee all the revenue they are projecting will surface. So its not inherently irrational to question someone's projections (works the same in my world when people question underwriting assumptions for an acquisition).

What's up Frank, hope the golf course is treating you well.

You're responding from a different perspective. T.A.'s post was in response to the budget and its projections. You're coming from more a values and morals perspective.

He's bringing up more whether the tax assumptions are realistic, will that revenue materialize, how will people (capital) respond to it.

You're bringing up values of fairness and inequality. It's a legitimate discussion, but it's a different discussion than what T.A. was talking about.

Hey Wack, what's cooking?

Here's the thing ... ALL policies and budgets are scrutinized before, during and after implementation. Thing is the wealthy don't want to be made to pay any taxes they just don't like ... not that they can't well afford it without altering their life style. The BS that all this will drive out the wealthy "job creators" is just that .... BS.

Actually, the first several rounds were outstanding. But, as always, I started experimenting with the swing...and things hiave gone downhill. (Actually got a lesson in transition from a video of Trump. He has an excellent transition method, and it is helping)

I get what you are saying here , CA...and you are correct. But my response was as directed toward the tone of his post as to the specifics...and to the tone rather than specifics of people like him. I suspect he realizes that...and much of the stuff he said was said to elicit that kind of response.

I am wishing Mamdani luck in what he is attempting. I suspect that getting some of that wealth away from the very wealthy is part of the solution to the over-all problem.

I'd argue it comes down to incentives. There are certainly people in places like NYC and SF that complain about higher taxes and their effects, but at the end of the day they aren't leaving either City.

But then you do have some (wealthier) individuals and business that do choose to either relocate or at least expand elsewhere. And that can have a very real effect on a City's budget.

There's not going to be some mass exodus from NYC. But if enough of the highest paying tax payers leave, the City is going have challenges in providing the services it desires.

That's what this debate comes down to when making a budget that looks to extract more from the wealthiest people and businesses.
