The Left and their bizarre love affair with Islam

Are you suggesting that male circumcision is on par with FGM, physically speaking? If so, you truly are a deranged lunatic. While I personally oppose male circumcision, it does offer some medical benefits and causes very little permanent nerve damage. FGM, on the other hand, is sheer barbarism.

The lengths you and Christiefan will go to in order to defend savagery are simply mind boggling.

"and women in these cultures practice this willingly."

Yeah, tell that to the seven or eight year old who was held down while someone used a sharp rock to mangle their genitals.

You truly are a sick individual.

Exactly! No one came here and freed our slaves, or came here and forced us to stop burning black people alive an d hanging them in the Jim Crowe south!

Conservatives are so full of shit, this is what enrages me about them! Open a history book and you will find there is pretty much nothing being done anywhere that we didn't do to native americans, and then black men, and oh, black women, forget about it, ourselves! Including not very long ago, even in the 1960's, using mass rape as a tool of terror! So give me a break.

They talk about it like it's ancient history, but it wasn't, and some of the battles are still being fought.

It's impossible to be self-righteous about it with the history Americans have. A country that was basically established with genocide, and which has seen some of the worst atrocities man can visit on other men (and women) throughout its history.

Bravo has a comic book understanding of Islam.

If you calculated the % of the Islam population who partake in "stoning," it would be a decimal that would extend out for quite a few zero's.

Well, Thingy....I didn't say it was commonplace or happening on a daily basis, and the stats of those that practice this barbarism is irrelevant....
or that it is epidemic in the world.....and a scholars understanding of the religion is not at all necessary to condemn the practice....YOU, certainly don't have
to be lawyer to rail against capital punishment in the US now do you.....

ONE country is one country too many......one death by stoning is one too many.....the year is 2013, not the year 1013

Stoning (rajm) as a punishment for adultery is not mentioned in the Quran (though it is mentioned in Hadith, thus, different point of view.

"Muslim jurists are unanimous on the fact that stoning to death is a specified punishment for the married adulterer and adulteress. The punishment is recorded in number of traditions and the practice of Muhammad stands as an authentic source supporting it. This is the view held by all Companions, Successors and other Muslim scholars with the exception of Kharijites."

As of September 2010, stoning is a punishment that is included in the laws in seven countries including Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Sudan, Iran, Yemen, the United Arab Emirates, and some states in Nigeria. While stoning may not be codified in the laws of Afghanistan and Somalia, both countries have seen several incidents of stoning to death.

Afghanistan
A Taliban-ordered public stoning of a couple accused of adultery took place in Kunduz on August 15, 2010.

Indonesia
In 2009, a law was introduced in Aceh that called for the stoning of married adulterers] but no cases of the sentence having been carried out have yet been reported.

Iraq
In 2007, Du'a Khalil Aswad, a Yezidi girl, was stoned by her fellow tribesmen in northern Iraq.[25]

Iran
The Iranian judiciary officially placed a moratorium on stoning in 2002.
A man and a woman were stoned to death in Mashhad in May 2006. In July 2007, the judiciary announced that convicted adulterer Jafar Kian had been stoned to death in Qazvin province. In 2008, the judiciary decided to fully scrap the punishment from the books in legislation submitted to parliament for approval.

Mali
In July, 2012, a couple who had sex outside marriage was stoned to death by Islamists in the town of Aguelhok in northern Mali.

Nigeria
Since the Sharia legal system was introduced in the predominantly Muslim north of Nigeria in 2000, more than a dozen Nigerian Muslims have been sentenced to death by stoning for sexual offenses ranging from adultery to homosexuality. However, none of these sentences has actually been carried out. They have either been thrown out on appeal or commuted to prison terms as a result of pressure from human rights groups.

Saudi Arabia
Stonings, with and without legal proceedings, have been reported in Sudan and Saudi Arabia.

Sudan
People sentenced to death by stoning but not carried out.

Somalia
In October, 2008, a girl, Aisho Ibrahim Dhuhulow, in fact 13 years old and had been arrested by al-Shabab militia after she had reported being gang-raped by three men.
was buried up to her neck at a Somalian football stadium, then stoned to death in front of more than 1,000 people.
In December 2009, another instance of stoning was publicized after Mohamed Abukar Ibrahim was accused of adultery by the Hizbul Islam militant group.

There are those that believe male circumcision is just as barbarous. I have never stated the position you are assigning to me.

SAY WHAT??
You most certainly did state that position; unless you're going to try and convince everyone that someone else was posting under your name and made the following comment:

FGM, like make circumcision practiced in the USA is a culture thing that because we in the USA don't practice it, perceive it as mutilation and abhor the practice.

"Many women believe that FGM is necessary to ensure acceptance by their community; they are unaware that FGM is not practised in most of the world.".

This is what I often find, outside cultures looking in have problems with others cultural practices, our own of women mutilating their bodies with plastic surgery and breast implants for acceptance.

I do not agree with fmg, but it is cultural and women in these cultures practice this willingly. It is hard or us to perceive, but for them it is part of their lives.

It's so funny how some of the biggest goddamned animals, predators, and sickos here, are sooooo concerned about women all of a sudden!

Who do any of you think you are fooling?

Especially for USF and BRAVO, no one's buying. Oh, and the female rape apologist herself! That is too hilarious for words Ms. Gazer.

Voltaire, you are pretty unhinged on the topic, so check yourself before you check anyone else.

While you're entitled to your own opinions; you're not entitled to your own facts.

If you've got a specific problem, spit it out or stfu, coward.....your generalized bitching and personal attacks are getting old

You got a point to debate, lets hear it so you can take your lumps like any other wanna-be bully. Lets see you actually refute a post for a change.

All you got is ridicule and a stupid sig. line

There is a large Muslim community about two miles from me and I don't recall them doing any of those things. Actually why is eschewing alcohol and drugs such a bad thing?? There is a Pakistani plumbing supply company down there, I will have to ask him if he also does female circumcision next time I go in for a new ballcock.

Mormons eschew coffee, tea, tobacco and alcohol in addition to drugs. I don't remember bravs mentioning this during the rmoney campaign.

"Cultural practices"

LOL

You funn-eee.

Read and learn.

FGM is considered by its practitioners to be an essential part of raising a girl properly—girls are regarded as having been cleansed by the removal of "male" body parts. It ensures pre-marital virginity and inhibits extra-marital sex, because it reduces women's libido. Women fear the pain of re-opening the vagina, and are afraid of being discovered if it is opened illicitly.[SUP][1][/SUP]
The term "pharaonic circumcision" (Type III) stems from its practice in Ancient Egypt under the Pharaohs, and "fibula" (in "infibulation") refers to the Roman practice of piercing the outer labia with a fibula, or brooch.[SUP][20][/SUP] Leonard Kouba and Judith Muasher write that genitally mutilated females have been found among Egyptian mummies, and that Herodotus (c. 484 BCE – c. 425 BCE) referred to the practice when he visited Egypt.[SUP][21][/SUP] There is reference on a Greek papyrus from 163 BCE to the procedure being conducted on girls in Memphis, the ancient Egyptian capital, and Strabo (c. 64 BCE – c. 23 CE), the Greek geographer, reported it when he visited Egypt in 25 BCE.[SUP][19][/SUP]
Asim Zaki Mustafa argues that the common attribution of the procedure to Islam is unfair because it is a much older phenomenon.[SUP][22][/SUP]

I'd never condone FGM, ever. But these blindered boneheads really don't have a clue about cultural practices outside the US, and that the way to change is through education. And, they don't want to learn either, witness popeye's freak out over al-Jazeera buying Current TV. When an attempt was made to educate people, for example that program "All-American Muslim", these nuts condemned it without even watching. I swear they have a genetic need to hate people who are different.

Let's be brutally honest for a moment, shall we?

Conservative Christians don't find the practice abhorrent because they CARE one whit about the Muslim women forced to undergo the practice.

NOOOOOOO...they find the practice abhorrent because they have deluded themselves into thinking Liberals find the practice acceptable and they believe they can use the subject to their advantage in order to beat up Liberals.

Wow. Just wow...........

Read and learn.

"Sudanese surgeon Nahid Toubia—president of RAINBO (Research, Action and Information Network for the Bodily Integrity of Women) —told the BBC in 2002 that campaigning against FGM involved trying to change women's consciousness: "By allowing your genitals to be removed [it is perceived that] you are heightened to another level of pure motherhood—a motherhood not tainted by sexuality and that is why the woman gives it away to become the matron, respected by everyone. By taking on this practice, which is a woman's domain, it actually empowers them. It is much more difficult to convince the women to give it up, than to convince the men."[SUP][25][/SUP][SUP][26][/SUP] Boyle writes that the Masai of Tanzania will not call a woman "mother" when she has children if she is uncircumcised.[SUP][27]

[/SUP]According to Amnesty, in certain societies women who have not had the procedure are regarded as too unclean to handle food and water, and there is a belief that a woman's genitals might continue to grow without FGM, until they dangle between her legs. Some groups see the clitoris as dangerous, capable of killing a man if his penis touches it, or a baby if the head comes into contact with it during birth, though Amnesty cautions that ideas about the power of the clitoris can be found elsewhere.[SUP][28][/SUP]

Gynaecologists in England and the United States would remove it during the 19th century to "cure" insanity, masturbation, and nymphomania.
[SUP][29][/SUP] The first reported clitoridectomy in the West was carried out in 1822 by a surgeon in Berlin on a teenage girl regarded as an "imbecile" who was masturbating.[SUP][30][/SUP][SUP][31][/SUP]Isaac Baker Brown (1812–1873), an English gynaecologist who was president of the Medical Society of London in 1865, believed that the "unnatural irritation" of the clitoris caused epilepsy, hysteria, and mania, and would remove it "whenever he had the opportunity of doing so," according to an obituary.

Peter Lewis Allen writes that his views caused outrage—or, rather, his public expression of them did—and Brown died penniless after being expelled from the Obstetrical Society.[SUP][32][/SUP]

That's it in a nut shell.

Can we retire "wow, just wow..."? Now please.

How ten years ago is that one? That is up there with kool kid spurt running on here to say "I see what you did there..."

I can't even believe I come here. Me, who defines cool.
