I don't necessarily think it is important to people, but I do think it is the image they recognize when they think of Trump. Basically, he could be an incredible President with all the right policy, but I think his self-absorbed antics of the past while promoting and becoming a "Reality TV" star will make it hard for most of the "voters" who literally pay attention only 2 weeks before an election to see him as "Presidential"...
I am still baffled as to who you think "looks presidential" on the GOP side? Newt Gingrich? Mitt Romney? Who? We don't have a statesman like Ronald Reagan, I don't think... at least, I haven't seen anyone emerge. I thought Palin came close, but I think the well is poisoned for Palin, she couldn't win, the media (and the elite right) has crucified her. I don't SEE anyone else looking "presidential" on the right. And honestly, I don't think the whole concept of "looking presidential" will be of the utmost importance to voters this time... I just think it could be a really defiant electorate, who stun the critics and astound the experts.
I am interested in Conservative government, smaller more limited government, lower taxes and more incentives for business to grow the economy. If some person emerges with this message, I don't care how they "look" really. I can overlook that aspect, it's not important to me to have a president who looks presidential, it's more important to have one who acts conservative.
Now with Trump... I think this might be his undoing. When people start getting into the details of what he has traditionally supported, it isn't going to be easy to overcome for him. For instance, his support of the Canadian Health Care system... he wrote about this in his book, he thought it was great! There are all kinds of discrepancies in what he purports to support today, versus what he has said in the past. These things have a way of rearing their ugly head in a political campaign, and he is totally inexperienced in this arena. I still think he is only in this race to help Mitt Romney... just my gut feeling about this.... he is saying too many things that are inconsistent with his views of the past, and has really not had much explanation, other than he changed his mind... it just seems like he is trying VERY hard, to appeal to a specific cross-section of the TEA Party right.... He has spend the past 4 weeks talking about Obama's birth certificate, when his prime asset as a potential president, is his business savvy. With the economy in the shape it's in, with the debt and spending in the news daily, it just seems very ODD that Trump has chosen to focus on the Obama birth certificate. Something doesn't feel right about that.
