But you are ok with Christian laws, because they were passed by elected officials in that city or county. But Sharia Laws are different?

Of course Sharia Law is different. Sharia is a complete separate system. What you might consider "Christian" laws is only your personal opinion, but the fact is those laws were passed by legislators who were elected by the people.

And if the majority of people in a given city or county elect officials that pass laws based on Sharia Law that is somehow different?

And it is not that I consider them Christian laws, they are based on Christian dogma and religious beliefs. The laws were pushed by Christians. The laws were passed by Christian lawmakers. There is no other reason for them.

Doesn't matter what religion the people are. We have religious freedom in the USA. Everyone gets a vote and the majority rules. Get used to it.

No, on that point you are wrong. Unless you have a big enough majority for a constitutional amendment, the majority can only do so much.

I am not saying that they have passed Sharia Laws. But your justification for the Christian laws can be used to justify Sharia law if muslims gain enough votes. And that is as dangerous as anything.

Yes, we have religious freedom in this country. But you are obviously more concerned about keeping Sharia Law out than you are about protecting the 1st Amendment.
 
The idea that the majority rules is wrong. If the majority voted to enslave blacks, or to make sodomy illegal, or to remove women's right to vote it would not be constitutional. Therefore the laws would be overturned, as they have been.

Our constitution was set up to protect the minority as well as the majority. That is why our nation is not a true democracy.

They aren't "Christian laws". They are the laws of the land. The laws were voted on by all the people. Sharia Law has not been voted on by anyone, yet courts have used it. That is wrong.

Yes, I am concerned about keeping Sharia Law out because it is unconstitutional to have religious law in our system. You're not getting it. You call our laws voted on by the people "Christian laws". That is dishonest. The church didn't INSTILL the law, the people did. When Sharia Law is used then you will have Islamist Clerics testifying in courts of law what the law means. Do you understand that? Instead of a judge ruling by the law voted on by the people, we will have people's fate being decided on by Islamic clerics. That cannot be allowed in the USA.

Every elected official except one is elected by a majority of the vote. Is that right?

And by that standard, if muslims get a majority they can install Sharia Laws as the law of the land. And that is wrong.

The church did not install the laws. And if a majority of a population of a city or county are muslim and they elect an official that installs Sharia Law it will not have been installed by Islam either. But the results are the same.




If you are going to claim that using Sharia Law is unconstitutional, then you have to concede that all laws based solely on religious law are unconstitutional.

Yes they are. And they can pass laws as long as they do not violate the US Constitution.

The majority cannot violate the constitution unless, as I said, you have a large enough majority to amend the US Constitution.

Yep, that's what they can do until the Sharia Law is found to conflict with another law. When Sharia Law says a husband is allowed to hit his wife, then that Sharia Law has to be changed. Agreed?

Agreed. And a law that says a privately owned business cannot open on sunday or sell beer on sunday, or that two consenting adults cannot commit sodomy in private, then those laws must be changed. Agreed?

As long as no one is hurt, pass any law you want.

When a muslim says he is allowed to hit his wife because Sharia Law is what they live under, then we have to stop that kind of thinking in the USA right in the bud.
