Texas Teenager Mistakenly Deported to Columbia

Although neither of us likes the outcome...it ultimately does speak volumes about what may happen when you lie to the authorities.

IF she hadn't ran away and then compounded her problem by LYING to the authorities, she'd never have found herself south of the border.

She just had the extraordinarily bad luck to pick a name already in the ICE database.

i can see that conversation pretty clearly:

ICE: whats your name little lady?

TEEN: maria aguilera conchita consuela lopez from cleveland, sir.

She's 14 years old for fuck's sake. She ran away and lied and ended up deported. If you think that deportation could possibly be within the realm of possible outcomes for a 14 year old that runs away and lies to authorities, you ought to sit down and think a little harder about what it's like to be a 14 year old runaway being confronted by police.

It gets even better...

There are still many unanswered questions about how an African-American girl who speaks no Spanish is mistaken for a foreign national. Immigration officials are investigating and released a statement late Tuesday.

How soon before Rev. Al marches on DC, to protest the deportation???

But they also allow you to express information that will be, if your generalization is correct, acurate 95% of the time and save lots of time adressing all the minutia. That's why its ok in conversation and not in doctoral thesis
95 seems a bit high. i'm pretty sure that people who are worried about illegals worry about ALL illegals is closer to 25% if not more.

Then she shouldn't have lied and given the police a false name.

NOt the ending ANY of us would like to see...well, except for Dix and a couple others maybe...but she did LIE to the cops and they did nothing but act on the information given to them.

It should not be a possible outcome. In any event, I'm not going to get into a shit-throw with you on this, but if it turns out that she said her name was something incredibly generic like Maria Garcia, then I hope you reconsider.

I know this is going to get the right-wingers' panties in a twist, but it should be noted that this would never happen to a white teenager.

you're right, the government never does bad things to white people. white people are the perfect government citizens and the government always does the best for them.

zappa has a point and i was going to make the same until i saw his post.

what you recommend as the solution?

Ah didn't she give the cops a false name because they had her on theft? Does she go to juvy on return. Is she in a gang?

They finally featured the story on the local news and some new info came to light.

Everyone had already heard how she gave the authorities a false name when arrested for theft.

Apparently after being told her name came back showing her to be from Columbia, the girl CONTINUED to claim she was who she first claimed. She also told ICE authorities she was a Columbian national and didn't change her story until she was in Columbia.

I'm just going on what the news reported, but if that is true, she's got no one to blame but herself.
