Tesla Model 3 named winner in KBB’s 5-Year Cost to Own Awards 2022. MAGA wets panties

Don't pass that on. Damocles had NO FUCKING IDEA what he's talking about. Any link he sends you will be from a MAGA website infested with with lies and misinformation. Do your own research or talk to a Tesla owner. There's a reason Tesla can't keep up with demand. People LOVE their Teslas. And MAGA wets panties.

When it comes to a huge purchase like a car, I think it's wise to listen to different takes on it before making up your own mind. Mr. Owl does impeccable research and analysis when considering huge purchases. I read him a couple of Damo's posts about the Tesla ownership and programming stuff; he said that he would look into that since he hadn't heard of it before now. We have a couple of neighbors around here who have Teslas that we can ask.

Musk is in it for himself, not for you or for me or for anyone else.

Generally speaking as a capitalist I have a lot of respect for entrepreneurs and what they create but I don't view Musk or really any one else as some deity. It may be to varying degrees but I think we're all out for ourselves, Musk is no different in that regard. The perception at least in this country is we are all so divided and right now people on the left are looking at Musk from a not so positive perspective and people on the right from a positive one. But that could change tomorrow.

I'm not sure that the RW thought positively about Musk at all, until he said he was buying Twitter. They're all dreaming he'll let the former IMPOTUSx2 have his bully pulpit back, along with his seditious minions.

And the NSA and FBI are dreaming of it, too. ;)

He has been called a Nazi? Does that make him a Nazi? Supporter of white supremacy? Where are you getting this radical shit? Tucker Carlson?
And could be responsible for the end of our democracy??? Are you serious? I'd love to see you connect the dots on that one.
And what makes you think conservatives don't like Teslas?

You used to be a rational, cogent poster. You're turning into a MAGA. Sorry to see it, Cawacko.

Come on now, have you really not seen the comments made by national media figures (on the left) towards Musk for his purchase attempt of Twitter? And even on this board from liberal posters he's been called a Nazi and supporter of white supremacy (the argument is by letting white males have total free speech on Twitter he is supporting white supremacy)

All the #MAGA folks love Musk right now because they think he's going to let people like Trump back on Twitter. It's folks on the left who have been saying our democracy could end etc. because of Musk.

That's why I ask you your thoughts a week or so ago on Musk because currently you are a contrarian on the left in your viewpoint towards him.

That's why I saying the strange bedfellows thing. Tesla (and by extension Musk) was popular in liberal circles. Then all of a sudden Musk wants to buy Twitter and starts talking about absolute free speech and the thought that Trump could get back on Twitter and things explode. He then became loved in #MAGA land and hated in liberal circles.

Who knows what he will do next. Maybe these loved/hated positions will change.

Musk was being slammed by the WOKE long before he announced buying 9% of Twitter. This ramped up when he started criticizing COVID martial laws.

Musk generally running down State of California governance was also a part of the WOKE turning on him.

You have one? Type? Pros? Cons? Mr. Owl loves tech, especially new tech. I'm more of a mind with Damo and don't like the idea of them telling you that you can't just outright sell it, or trade it in, or them having the power to do whatever to it remotely.

I bought a Model Y (Dual Motor) last June. My previous car was 9 years old so there was a lot of technology to catch up on. There are a lot of 'gadgets' on the car that I don't use. The user interface takes time to learn, I guess like buying a new computer. You have to figure out where everything is. And there are a lot of 'voice' commands that you can give it which is cool. You really have to sit down and read the User Manual to see everything that the user interface can do. The car has a lot of software dedicated to it. But that's probably true with most 2020+ cars.
But the best thing about it is the way it handles and drives. I just took my wife's car in to the shop for annual maintenance and it's the first time I'd driven a gas car since I bought the Tesla. I'll NEVER buy another gas car. The difference is undeniable. The Tesla is so smooth and you press on the throttle and there's no hesitation. It's instant torque.
But I also like the Regenerative Braking. Tesla designed their cars to engage a flywheel when you take pressure off the accelerator which helps charge the batteries. In a gas car, that energy is in the form of heat when pressing the brakes. Wasted energy. And being able to slow down and stop your car by just releasing the accelerator and not pressing the break is something you'll savor. You rarely use the brakes. You learn to slow down the car using the accelerator. So much more fun to drive. And the performance will make you smile. The acceleration will blow you away (literally). If you know anyone who owns a Tesla, ask them to give you a ride. You'll see what I mean.
Oh and of course, there's the thing about never having to go to a gas station. You just plug it into your garage outlet when the charge gets low. I charge it up to 90% and re-charge it when it gets below 50%. Charges in about 10 hours with a 220v (dryer outlet). I've gone on two four-hour trips and had to stop once for each. Took about 20-30 minutes to charge.
Also, the Tesla is surrounded by six cameras so it's always aware of other cars and things on the road. Thus, it's always making you aware of them. Kinda annoying but it's for your own safety so you let it go. It's got a great security system they call Sentry. It videos anybody or thing that a gets close to your car when it's parked. If someone were to damage it, you'd have video evidence. I've seen articles online about Tesla owners getting vandals or thieves arrested.
Then there's the maintenance thing. There is none. No radiator fluid. No oil. No transmission fluid. You rarely use the brakes so that's low maintenance. We're just talking about an electric motor. Simple. They build the car so you can't even get access to the motors so you couldn't fix one even if you wanted to. And why would you? You'd be nuts to try. Tesla will take care of you. The mobile app has a Request Service section where you can enter an issue. Tesla will contact you and take care of it. Tesla covers all fixes and repairs the first four years.
Bottom line: It's a great car. It's the most technologically advanced car I've ever owned. EVs are the future. Anybody who buys an EV will never buy another gas car. It's that simple.

I'm thinking that that is bullshit then. He pays cash for our vehicles rather than getting a loan. What's the point if you don't actually "own" it then, whether you pay cash or get a note? Bah.

It IS bullshit. People sell their Teslas all the time. Go to Reddit and look at the Tesla forums. Or go to AutoTrader.com or any of the other online Car Selling sites. Don't listen to a MAGA on a political forum.

Elon might throw them off of Twitter

Yeah, try buying a Tesla now. You'll be on the waiting list for over a year.

Oh, by the way, have you seen this?

Used Tesla Prices Skyrocket, Selling For Huge Premium Over New Models
Some Tesla models are selling for $6,000 to $10,000 more than they cost new a few years ago.

We've been saying for years now that Tesla's vehicles have a high resale value. It hasn't been uncommon over the years to see pre-owned Tesla vehicles on the used market that cost about as much as, if not more than, a new model.

That said, the situation has amplified of late, and now it seems people are making a significant amount of money selling models that they've owned for years. Not only are older models selling for higher prices than new models (even as Tesla continues to raise its new car prices), but also, according to Electrek, some folks could be making $6,000 to $10,000 on a car they've owned and used for years.

At this point, it's likely we all know a typical car has never been a good investment opportunity, at least in most "normal" cases. Cars lost plenty of value as soon as you drive them off the lot. However, with the shortage of new cars, the used market has been booming, and prices are high.

People have taken to selling their newer cars on the pre-owned market for a premium over what they paid new. So, to be clear, this is not just related to Tesla, though it seems the electric automaker's vehicles are selling at an even higher premium on the used market than many other cars.

This is likely due in part to Tesla's growing popularity, along with the popularity of EVs in general. Moreover, the demand for Tesla's vehicles is so high that you can't get a new one for many months after placing an order.

To get a grasp of used prices on Tesla's models, all you have to do is visit any major online used car sales website. However, Electrek looked specifically at Tesla's own used car sales to see where prices are headed. The publication points out that the US automaker handles much of its used inventory, and unlike other used car websites, Tesla's prices are non-negotiable.

Please do that. Tesla owners would be the best source, imho. Ask them if they actually own their cars or if they're just renting them from Elon.
Let me know what they say. I could use a good laugh.

No, I wasn't aware of those comments from the left. I guess we don't read the same media sources. Radical, extreme statements like that I just naturally tune out. Why bother conversing with someone who's that far gone? It doesn't even register with me.

I really don't care about Musk. I admire him as an entrepreneur and the fact that he has Aspergers makes what he's done even more impressive. And the whole SpaceX thing. More amazing shit. How can you NOT be impressed by that? But, lately he's been on a media high it seems and it's not going well. He says some very strange shit but I brush it off on being on the spectrum. He's a businessman, not a celebrity. I did read something about him wanting to buy Tesla because he wanted to reduce carbon emissions. Whether that's true, don't know, don't care. I just know he builds a kick-ass car and he's not just a businessman. He knows a shitload about technology. He's a fucking genius but sometimes geniuses do whacky things.
