Teen suicide attempts in the U.S. declined after same-sex marriage became legal and the biggest impact was among gay, lesbian and bisexual kids, a study found.

The research found declines in states that passed laws allowing gays to marry before the Supreme Court made it legal nationwide. The results don't prove there's a connection, but researchers said policymakers should be aware of the measures' potential benefits for youth mental health.

Suicide is the second-leading cause of death for all U.S. teens. Suicidal behavior is much more common among gay, lesbian and bisexual kids and adults; about 29 percent of these teens in the study reported attempting suicide, compared with just 6 percent of straight teens.

Laws that have the greatest impact on gay adults may make gay kids feel "more hopeful for the future," said lead author Julia Raifman, a researcher at Johns Hopkins' Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Auto deaths went up since same sex marriage became legal....

Is this also cause and effect as you claim above ?

Do you have anything to support your link? This study appears to have taken a deeper look than what you are doing here with the auto accidents.

In 32 states that enacted same-sex marriage laws during the study, suicide attempts dropped 7 percent among all students and 14 percent among gay kids after the laws were passed. There was no change in suicide attempts in states without those laws.

Actually, I have known 2 gay teens in my life who suffered depression, and my observation was that at least part of that was the feeling that they were outsiders and would never fit in.

Well, only 3.8% of the adult population identified themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender in Gallup Daily tracking poll some time ago, so I guess

that would make them 'outsiders' to some degree.....

Your compassion is overwhelming.

Actually, I have compassion for all those that are mentally or physically handicapped....

and stating a conclusion from a Gallup poll doesn't show compassion, or anything else, one way or another....

I'm glad to hear that. But why would you bring that up in a thread about homosexuality?

Teenagers don't get married, it is very unusual. Tell me, were teen suicides up or down in the 50's?

To claim any correlation here is absolutely absurd.

That's obtuse.

It's not about the teens themselves getting married. As it says in the OP, it just makes them more hopeful about the future (or has the potential to). It's a general level of more acceptance & tolerance that matters.

So now now you'll address the substance of my post when you think I'm wrong.

Cowardly liar. Explain how I lied by thinking warranted means good. And recant your lie about my support of Trump. I did not lie about you, at worst, I misunderstood what you meant by warranted, but you never even explained it, you just had a melt down, called me a liar and cried that you were going to thread ban me and ignore me.

You always do this when you get proven wrong. Why don't you explain it instead of jumping to conclusions and calling me a liar?
