Tax the poor

This is all due to our obscene wealth gap. The tax code has been crafted to help the top 1 percent. Taxing the poor more will not derive revenue. It will result in greater food stamp and rent assistance. The raise in the Min Wage is the best tool to cut assistance. Biden is raising taxes on corporations and the rich, it is about time.

True, which is why the progressive income tax is working the way it was intended.

Recent research has shown the wealth gap and inequality is not as great as reported because census data does not include government transfer payments as part of income. If government benefits are included and after tax income is used the poverty rate and level of inequality is much lower.

By killing off the Trump income tax changes, Biden DID increase taxes on the poor.

But yes, everyone should pay, not just the 47%

An idea ahead of its time. IMO it is long overdue for the poor to finally pony up and PAY UP. Are we not ALL Americans? Does it not feel good and right when we ALL have skin in the game? Well,...this is the poors chance. Tax the poor, same as anyone else. They too have earned the right to take part in this great American tradition!
Don't worry Biden is going to make everyone poor so they will have to tax the poor.

Think the poor don’t pay taxes? This chart proves you very wrong.

One of the stranger conservative tax talking points is the claim that the tax code is somehow unfair to rich people, who are unduly burdened by the progressive income tax. "The top 10 percent pay two-thirds of the income tax," the Heritage Foundation's Stephen Moore notes in a representative piece. "And the bottom 50 percent — all Americans with an income below the median — pay just 3 percent of the income tax." Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) made a similar argument in his 2013 and 2014 budgets, which included a flat tax to make "the system more efficient and fair by broadening the tax base, letting everyone contribute to their government instead of a few people contributing for everyone."

Leaving aside the fact that this is exactly how a progressive tax system is supposed to work, this analysis has a big conceptual flaw: it only focuses on federal income taxes. That's not the biggest part of most families' tax bill — most pay more in payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare, for example. And it also leaves out state and local governments, which tend to rely heavily on regressive sales and property taxes. Citizens for Tax Justice, a left-leaning tax policy shop with a strong reputation for careful modeling, puts out an annual report looking at how much Americans pay in all taxes put together. It reveals a tax code that, while still progressive for low earners, hits the uber-rich and the upper middle class at roughly the same rate:

Wow, you know absolutely nothing. It's amazing. If you sell a stock you pay capital gains on the GAIN, if there is any, from when you bought it. DIVIDENDS ARE TAXED AS CAPITAL GAINS. Fuck, you are a brainless twit.

An insipidly stubborn brainless twit....one of the MAGA minions "strong" points.

So, was this just a flame thread, or do you actually believe the stuff you post? It's a serious question. Because you proposal would cause an economic disaster. Not sure if you realized that or not.

Stoney gets lonely. When no one pays attention to him, or he doesn't see any threads where he can possibly "win" a debate with his MAGA mush, he'll start things like this just for the sake of argument. Mind you, even if he engages to some limited degree, he'll NEVER admit to being wrong on any level despite the facts and logic being against his viewpoint. Sad.

It should be obvious by how I worded everything that I was kidding. This joint has been too serious of late.

Right wing wonk cop out #5: It's all a joke and the jokes on you!

Given the nature of all your other posts on this site, I highly doubt that.

Next time get off your brains and actually do some honest homework before your fingers hit the keys.

More than half of American households paid no federal income tax last year due to Covid-relief funds, tax credits and stimulus, according to a new report.
The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center estimates that 57% of U.S. households paid no federal income taxes for 2021, up substantially from the 44% before the pandemic.

Something like half Americans+Illegals dont pay income tax now federally, and likely not state income tax either....with a lot of them actually getting what are essentially welfare kickers. I dont remember the number but I heard it a few months back. It is almost my bedtime so I am not going to research.

What a dumb rube , sales taxes on every day items as a percentage of their income

My state (TN) doesn't have a state income tax, but we have the highest sales tax at 9.5% (afaik). People like Ben Shapiro come here to set up shop, then just go live somewhere else. His "business" is headquartered here, but he lives in Florida.

Illegals do not, nor can they get welfare, legally, so, it’s another statement of yours not based on fact.

63% of Non-Citizen Households Access Welfare Programs

If you believe that illegals do not get welfare, you are delusional or a partisan hack or both.

If they're not getting government assistance how are they "surviving"?
