Allow me to give you an answer...
I don't want to send anyone's child anywhere. That said, children do not serve in the US Armed Forces. Our military is comprised of adult men and women who CHOSE to serve their country, and KNEW they might have to go somewhere and it might involve being shot at. If they didn't know of this risk, perhaps their parent should have done a better job of teaching them what the military does, before they became adults?
Now, let me turn the question back to you... Who's child do you want to grow up in a 5th century fanaticism where women are stoned to death for showing their faces in public and men are beheaded if they refuse to tolerate it? The child who's skin is a different color and who talks differently than you? The child who wasn't fortunate enough to be born free in a free country? Or maybe it's the child you can turn your back on while they are gassed to death and dumped in mass graves, the way people once turned their backs and looked the other way for your ancestors?
I must admit that it is hard to see what the difference is between the plight of Jews in concentration camps, even though the Allies knew perfectly well what was going on, the treatment of slaves in the South, the massacre of Tutsis by Hutus in Ruanda and the genocides of East Timorese and Cambodians.
