The leaders of Kiev were called Rus. They apparently got that name from their Viking ancestors. It does not appear to be a Slavic word. It was imposed on the people of Russia.
The people of England had Norman rule imposed on them... But also the people of Normandy. Norman refers to the Norsemen, who were once again Vikings. The people of Normandy are for the most part not from Norway, they are completely French. The people of England are for the most part not from Normandy, they are completely English.

It is a fact that Ukrainians have been able to stand up to Russia, a much bigger country. The only way that is possible is if Ukrainians were against surrendering to Russia. That is just a fact.

Ukraine had no hope of joining NATO, because a country with occupied territory can not join NATO. It did have a hope of joining the EU, which is the issue here. Putin could not allow a country so similar to Russia be economically and culturally successful, because then Russians might start asking why they have to live such pathetic lives.
