Superbowl Thread.... (I'll move it to the sports, etc. area after the game...)

A Superbowl is like a pizza, even a bad one is better than no pizza. IMHO, it was the most boring Superbowl of my lifetime, but it's still better than watching tennis.
I thought it was a good one. The Pat's rallying toward the win was good, but they just couldn't overcome the Seahawk defense.

Anytime the QB is sacked 6 or 7 times is a bad day for the offense.

My issue is the NFL's attempts to legitimize punishing and fining players for their personal lives, and then virtue-signalling about it. It's like they are a wholly owned subsidiary of the DNC. They pretend to be policing personal lives as the morality police, and then push deviant and criminal behavior.

I can't support them.

I get it. You didn't play competitively, I imagine.
You would be correct about that. In fact, even non-competitively, I haven't played it very much (except whenever I had to play it in phy-ed classes). I actually wasn't that bad at it, but soccer just never grew on me. Same with baseball/softball.

I always liked basketball and football the most, with basketball being the sport that I chose to play competitively for a few years.
The magical thing about soccer is the prohibition against using the hands and arms. This forces teamwork to be the major factor to winning instead of individual talent, as is the case in most other sports.

This makes watching soccer (for those who are studying the play as opposed to being bored by the relative struggle to simply control the ball) a fascinating analysis of the teamwork and how they utilize the talents of the individual players.
That makes sense.

Since basketball is most up my alley, I'll say that while basketball CAN be a team sport, it's nowadays basically just a three point competition. Offensive plays are all but a thing of the past. Now, a "team's" "offense" is mostly just setting some ball screens along the perimeter, sometimes driving towards the basket in isolation situations, and chucking up a three pointer. Even the 7-footers are chucking up threes now instead of being a strong presence in the post. Rule changes have contributed to this because they basically don't allow teams to play defense anymore.

In fact, I tried to watch a college basketball game again recently (Wisconsin vs Indiana) and I found myself quickly getting irritated with it... "chuck up a 3-pointer, miss, chuck up a 3-pointer, miss, etc etc" ... then in OT, the Badgers all but had the game won, then their guard did a boneheaded charge into an Indiana player when all he had to do was hold onto the ball and force the Indiana player to eventually foul him (because otherwise time would've expired before Indiana could've gotten the ball back). Indiana then went on to win by 1. For someone who is used to an "older-school" "fundamentals-first" way of playing the sport, it was annoying to watch an easily winnable game get pissed away by a lack of situational awareness at the very end as well as an overall lack of utilizing a clear size advantage in the post.

Both basketball and football (especially professionally) have been ruined in similar ways.
It's not the pace.
On second thought, you're right about this... it can't be about the pace. For instance, golf is a rather slow-paced sport, yet I still enjoy golf.
It's simply the matter of interest. I'm guessing you like to see more of the game dedicated to direct competition without worrying about controlling the ball ... although in football, the occasional fumble is exciting,
Correct. "Just get on with it already"... That's usually my first thought whenever I do witness some bits of professional soccer being played.
... but you'd get bored if that's all it was.
That's true. That's probably why I find plenty of women's sports to be boring (especially basketball). Women's basketball is basically just a shit ton of turnovers and jump balls. It's much sloppier play than men's basketball. It's also why the leagues that have tried to compete with the NFL are boring; it's sloppier play.
Have you ever watched indoor soccer? There is a lot of scoring in that. The reason: indoor soccer doesn't have any offside rule to completely kill the game. If FIFA would eliminate the offside rule, it would Make Soccer Great Again. With the offside rule, however, goals are put on a Canadian healthcare waiting list.
BINGO. I've never watched indoor soccer, but yes, FIFA getting rid of the offside rule would be a HUGE plus as far as I'm concerned.

Ditto.

During the regular season, the December 7th Dolphins vs. Jets matchup (two of the worst teams in the league) that ended in a 34-10 Dolphin victory (total 44 points), was a better game than the Superbowl ... and it was still a sucky game.

People who paid $70 to see the Dolphins play the Jets got a better game than those who paid $6,000 to see the Superbowl, but missed out on any Bad Bunny promotions.

What's wrong with tennis? A front row seat at a tennis match is a great neck workout - because you're... well.. you know!

If the NFL hadn't sabotaged the game entirely, you and I would be ribbing rivals, i.e. I would mock the Packers and Favre for being whining sissies, and you would mock the Raiders for ... being the Raiders.
What are you on about, "sabotaged the game"? I had a great time this season, betting and playing Fantasy Football! You can join our league next year if you want - even that and @gfm7175 if they want to. I exclude no one. We had Phatasmal, LifeIsGolden, and PoorRichardSaunders all join our league next year - Stone almost joined but pussed at the last second.
QUESTION: How can you tell when the Raiders' kicker is going to make his field goal attempt?
ANSWER: When the Raiders have 1st and goal on the two-yard-line.
That's a good one! Pete Carroll sure needs to retire soon!
QUESTION: How does the Broncos defense push the line of scrimmage back 40 yards?
ANSWER: They let the Raiders reach 2nd and 52.
Broncos losing Bo the last game was a hearbreaker - but he's young and he career's not over. Denver does have a shot next year!

Well, I don't know - I think it speaks well of any organization to police itself. And get real - Democrats have nothing to do with it - if Godell didn't think sanctioning people was a good business, he wouldn't do it. You really think NFL owners give a shit about what Democrats think? Shit, Robert Kraft is a huge trump booster and is just like trump - Kraft was busted and a massage parlor sting in Florida and was literally caught "with his pants down". Now you know I vote Democrat - but I'm not going to waste time trying to cancel some old perv - I'll sure laugh at the stupid mothterfucker tho

I did, wrestling and Rugby. It's amazing how many successful salespeople come from competitive sports - it translates well to sales because sales is all about competing and winning.

Yeah, I like watching the soccer highlights. Any sport where it can go scoreless and end in 0/0? Nope!

Yep, it's the same as indoor football, 7 on 7. Much more scoring. The soccer version reminds me more of hockey.
True. They had that one play that was pretty good.
So, signing you guys up for JPP Fantasy Football this year? The draft is the end of August.

This makes you true-blue American. All that's missing is wrestling.

Correct. "Just get on with it already"... That's usually my first thought whenever I do witness some bits of professional soccer being played.
Indoor is different. It is fast-paced and non-stop. Lots of scoring. This is absolute adrenaline. Back in the day, I had several indoor teams. It was my thing.

That's true. That's probably why I find plenty of women's sports to be boring (especially basketball). Women's basketball is basically just a shit ton of turnovers and jump balls.
This is because women pretty much suck at sports ... statistically speaking ... which explains why no one watches.

Y - U - G - E (in Spanish: "Enorme !", pronounced "A-NOR-MAY") I had a dream that Trump forced FIFA to eliminate the off-sides rule by threatening tariffs.

Love thy fellow man.
So two people in Minneapolis are murdered in cold blood, the trump cult all rushes to condemn the victims and then someone who runs with the trump cult (you) accuses me of "not loving my fellow man". I'd just like us to let that hang there for a moment :)

But as far as Republicans "loving their fellow man" You know - there's a good reason why the gay dating app Grindr crashes from overuse whenever there's a Republican or Nazi event in town.

"Are hookups on the rise during the Republican National Convention this week?

According to Google search trends, that has been one of the hot topics on people's minds in Milwaukee, particularly regarding gay dating app Grindr, which has seen a flood of unconfirmed reports that it's continually crashing during the convention.

But what's really happening on Grindr this week?

One user in Milwaukee said there has been a major bump in anonymous users!

The Grindr user said on a normal day you'd encounter maybe 10 users with no profile photo, but Thursday, when he checked the app, he said he stopped counting at 50 blank profile photos.

If that's the case, it aligns with Grindr activity during previous national conventions.

I'll have to see how I feel at the end of August, and it depends on how much effort it would be for me, but you could mark me down as a "maybe". ;)

What are you on about, "sabotaged the game"?
Sabotaged. That is exactly the right word.

I had a great time this season,
Congrats.

Broncos losing Bo the last game was a hearbreaker - but he's young and he career's not over. Denver does have a shot next year!
I was a fan back in the Orange Crush days.

Well, I don't know - I think it speaks well of any organization to police itself.
Nope. It speaks ill of anyone who feels it's his duty to be a busy-body into other people's lives. That which is none of the NFL's business is none of their business.

And get real - Democrats have nothing to do with it
Get real; you are gullible.

- if Godell didn't think sanctioning people was a good business, he wouldn't do it.
If your boss thought it was good business to sell one of your kidneys, would he do it?

You really think NFL owners give a shit about what Democrats think?
I think they get on their knees and suck Democrat dick to get the right favorable legislation passed, to get the right stadium zoning, to get the right taxpayer-funded subsidizing, etc., etc., etc., ....

Shit, Robert Kraft is a huge trump booster and is just like trump
This tells me absolutely nothing. I have no idea what you are saying. Is Robert Kraft also an elected President? Is Rober Kraft putting America first and making America great again, like causing the DJIA to break its all-time-high AGAIN today?

- Kraft was busted and a massage parlor sting in Florida and was literally caught "with his pants down".
What does this have to do with Trump ... other than Trump simply being responsible for everything in this quadrant of the galaxy?

Now you know I vote Democrat
Nope. You vote ANTI-Trump. There is no such thing as a Democrat "thing" for which to vote.

- but I'm not going to waste time trying to cancel some old perv - I'll sure laugh at the stupid mothterfucker tho
That's my point. You don't stand for anything. You don't stand for anything constructive. You just want to HATE and tear-down. You certainly don't want to make America great again. To the contrary, you want to make America shitty. The proof is in the pudding. Trump has an amazingly long list of accomplishments, each of which are big wins for America, for Americans and for you ... but you aren't allowed to give Trump credit for any of it. You are a slave to the DNC and you have been ordered to aid their efforts to make America shitty.

I did, wrestling and Rugby.
Did you try MMA?

Yeah, I like watching the soccer highlights. Any sport where it can go scoreless and end in 0/0? Nope!
That's not the sport; that's the offside rule you're seeing. Indoor soccer doesn't suffer from that problem.

Yep, it's the same as indoor football, 7 on 7. Much more scoring. The soccer version reminds me more of hockey.
It's 6 on 6. You'll notice that when someone gets a yellow card, he goes to the penalty box and the game sifts into a power play. Indoor soccer is just like hockey except you can't dribble around behind the goal.

So, signing you guys up for JPP Fantasy Football this year? The draft is the end of August.
I've never played. What's involved?

So two people in Minneapolis are murdered in cold blood,
Who?

the trump cult all rushes to condemn the victims
I still don't know who you are talking about.

and then someone who runs with the trump cult (you) accuses me of "not loving my fellow man".
There's a Trump cult? Where can I get information on it? Is there a website?

But as far as Republicans "loving their fellow man" You know - there's a good reason why the gay dating app Grindr crashes from overuse whenever there's a Republican or Nazi event in town.
You lost me here. Tell me about this Republican phenomenon? Is there such a thing as a gay dating app? Do they not have sufficient bandwidth?

"Are hookups on the rise during the Republican National Convention this week?
You tell me. Is this going somewhere or is there a punchline coming?

According to Google search trends, that has been one of the hot topics on people's minds in Milwaukee,
Did you ask how Google Search Trends somehow knows what's on anyone's mind, much less on the minds of the people of Miluakee?

particularly regarding gay dating app Grindr, which has seen a flood of unconfirmed reports that it's continually crashing during the convention.
Tell me what you know about Grindr. I've never heard of it. I'm still trying to figure out what this has to do with Trump ... or with a cult ... or with insufficient bandwidth.

One user in Milwaukee said there has been a major bump in anonymous users!
One user always knows everything!

The Grindr user said on a normal day you'd encounter maybe 10 users with no profile photo, but Thursday, when he checked the app, he said he stopped counting at 50 blank profile photos.
Does user normally count profiles? Have we gone down a rabbit hole here?

If that's the case, it aligns with Grindr activity during previous national conventions.
... and your point is ...?
