Startup says battery swapping your EV faster than filling your car up with gas

I find it a bit sad that the right ALWAYS feels like they have to be a rain cloud on any good development in the area of alternative energy.

They just love those fossil fuels and all of their byproducts. It's infatuation, basically.

They just enjoy being able to get to work to do their jobs. To pay their bills. I can see why you on the left would not understand that.

Because not a single sold in America EV is set up for Ample they need to remove the existing battery and set up the space for their modules. Do they replace it with for instance a Tesla quality battery? I tend to doubt it. I did a looking around and found no information on the range of Ample batteries compared to OEM, which is a bad sign.

Tesla claims that its batteries and battery management are best in the industry, do you really want Ample instead, especially given that the odds they will still be in business five years from now are not great?

Not at all but there is no actual development here, it’s only an idea

Its worth noting that this idea of battery swapping instead of charging was deader than a doornail till the Chinese resurrected it.

I just read several experts on this, according to them there is no way this business model works without major cooperation from manufacturers, who have and have had no interest in pursuing this old idea.

ICE technology for automobiles is over a hundred years old. Think about it. It was bound to happen.

So, tell me. How does making a battery swappable reduce the range? Are you an electrical engineer?

If you looked at the picture I sent you would see that the battery is the size of the entire space between the four wheels. This is necessary to distribute the 1-2000 pounds that the battery weighs. If you condense the same cubic inches it would fill the trunk which could render it swappable but place far too much weight on the rear tires to make it safe to drive.

If you get the weight down enough to allow for the physics the range would be vastly reduced.

You really need to learn something about how EVs work which includes how they are built.

It's much worse than that. Every manufacturer uses a different style, size, layout, battery pack. Most, like Tesla, also have a coolant system attached to the pack. Those, as of right now, are not something that can be quickly and easily detached and reattached. There's also the issue of ensuring replacement of any coolant that leaked out during the swap. Even within a brand not all battery packs are equal.

Let's say you come in for a swap in a Tesla. The battery pack they give you isn't the same model that was taken out. Let's say the swapped in one has more range. Tesla, monitoring your car sees this and slaps a range restriction on you because they can.

Or, your battery has issues, serious issues. The car runs but has tens of miles range available because of these problems. You come in and get it swapped out. The new battery you got has the full available range on it and the swapping company is stuck with your useless un-rechargeable battery. You make out like a bandit.

Duh!

If this works at all it will be a very specialized niche thing say the experts.

Well if they could figure this out it would be a huge step forward but they need to make it as easy as getting gas.

Some teen girl isn’t going to be pulling out wrenches to undo a battery

They need to put the battery somewhere on the console and reduce its size

That is like saying gasoline powered cars are impossible, because teenage girls will never siphon their own gasoline out of a tank... We have mechanized tools that will replace the battery for them. They drive over the device, the device removes the huge battery from below the car, and puts in a new battery. The whole process takes well under a minute, and you are good to go.

Is this the future? Maybe or maybe not. But smarter people than TinkerBell are coming up with better ideas that they are testing now.

Are you insane? Under a minute? Sheez...

If it works, only the rich will be able to afford one.

In UTOPIA only the very top layer, the bosses, get cars generally. If you have enough central bank digital currency AND enough social credit points you might be able to call a car if your owners (Carlin) approve of what you want it for.
