So tomatoes are being plowed under, and John Deere is laying off thousands of Americans

Does not capitalism mean the consumer pays price for product. Let the illegal labor be removed, if so be. Pay US labor the right cost.

By the way, does anyone expect the owner who hired the illegal workers to also be jailed?!

So, you want to exploit labor and not pay fair wage.
No, I would prefer that farm labor gets a fair wage, and I can afford to give farm labor a fair wage.

I have noticed as lowest farm laborers get the ability to leave farm labor, they often do so immediately. That might not be a bad thing. We could automate more of the farm labor, and get people doing other jobs.

Good. I do not accept the argument that we need illegal farm workers.

Or maybe we would just import the food from abroad, where the laborers are getting even lower pay than they would here?

I think it is hard to deny in the short term. If there is a field that needs to be harvested right now, and there are people who want to harvest it, if you deport them, there will be no one to harvest it. Maybe in a year or two, they will find someone, but often there are days or weeks to harvest in.

But it does not really matter. There are fewer and fewer illegal aliens in the former sense. Most asylum seekers that trump is calling illegal aliens, have full working papers and can work anywhere they please.

Violates every principle of economics. Pay the price and someone will do the work.

You are the one crying about losing your cheap labor
The nation needs labor just as it needs immigration reform.

Do you really think Americans would pick tomatoes for minimum wage and no benefits? Live on top of each other in a barracks as they are bused around the country to different crops? Also, consider it's seasonal work, not 9-5, M-F, 365.

Immigration reform is win-win; workers arrive, work for a few months and then go home only to return for the next season. Without reform, then they become illegals who stay all year long because crossing the border is costly and dangerous.
