SNAP benefits cut!!! Musk gets a trillion dollars!

Ah yes, the New York Post - the Murdock-owned tabloid.

I'm guessing those other sources are a result of QAnon and Newsmax having a baby?

...health care, decent housing, decent food, decent education. It seems to me that if we provide these things
By "we", you mean take from me and give to you. Thanks for that.
eventually
You got a timeline? Weeks? Months? Years? We both know it's a LIFETIME addiction to the government provided wheelchair...
those people might be able to climb out of poverty and contribute to society
...and those people never learn to climb out and walk. Why should they?
What's that saying about a rising tide lifts all boats?
Theft of wealth is not a "rising tide". A rising tide is when business does well and there is wage and job growth. People EARN their way.
With the exception of those who are disabled... due to cognitive issues, etc.
Yes, I would definitely approve your assistance benefits.

I am unsure how someone making money in the private sector has anything to do with SNAP.
I don’t believe he does, but the juxtaposition of how out government treats Musk, we give him billions, v. How we treat individuals who have no money for food, is significant.

I'm guessing you know what ad hominem is.
I'm guessing the projections you provide are highly biased by right-wing spin artists.

But - hey - I see I've pissed you off - let's get serious and have a look at what the true cost we're talking about is:

Here's what Google says:

Extending the ACA's enhanced subsidies would cost the government approximately $350 billion over a decade, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). Extending the subsidies for just one additional year is estimated to cost around $23 billion. These figures are based on making the current, expanded subsidies permanent or extending them through 2026, respectively.

23 billion is not even close to 1.5 trillion.

Cost estimates
  • Permanent extension: The CBO estimates that making the enhanced subsidies permanent would cost around $350 billion over a decade.
  • Two-year extension: A more temporary, two-year extension is estimated to cost about $60 billion.

Impact of not extending the subsidies
  • Higher premiums: Millions of people would face much higher monthly health insurance premiums, with some costs increasing by more than 75%.
  • Reduced affordability: For some low-income individuals and families, a premium increase could represent a significant portion of their budget, potentially forcing them to choose between health coverage and other necessities like food or utilities.
  • Economic impact: The expiration of subsidies could lead to job losses in the healthcare and other sectors due to decreased economic activity.

More like:

$350 billion over a decade for Obamacare marketplace subsidies
Reversal of $1 trillion in expanded Medicaid subsides to states as scheduled under original Obamacare legislation that were eliminated on schedule by the OBBB but extended by the Chinese Disease Panic.
With smaller items it comes to $1.5 trillion over a decade. These include:

the Democrat bill would repeal “Subtitle B of title VII” of the BBB. This part of the bill contains the following provisions that limit healthcare handouts to aliens. Unless Democrats rescind them, CBO estimates that over the next 10 years they will save taxpayers about:

$91.4 billion by preventing illegal immigrants and other non-citizens like temporary workers from receiving Obamacare benefits. (This is section 71301 of the BBB.)
$34.6 billion by preventing states like California from using a tax kickback scheme to obtain more federal money for Medicaid, which is fungible and can be used to fund comprehensive Medicaid coverage for illegal immigrants, as California does for 1.7 million aliens. (Section 71117 of the BBB.)
$28.2 billion by ending an Obamacare provision that gives extra federal money to states like California for emergency room services and childbirths for illegal immigrants. (Section 71110 of the BBB.)
$27.3 billion by preventing illegal immigrants and other non-citizens from receiving special Obamacare benefits given to poor people who are typically ineligible for Medicaid due to their immigration status. (Section 71302 of the BBB.)
$6.2 billion by preventing illegal immigrants and other non-citizens like refugees from receiving comprehensive Medicaid. (Section 71109 of the BBB.)
$5.1 billion by preventing illegal immigrants and other non-citizens from receiving Medicare benefits for elderly people. (Section 71201 of the BBB.)

In total, these figures amount to $193 billion that the Democrat bill would give to illegal immigrants and other non-citizens over the next 10 years. This is 13% of the $1.5 trillion that Democrats are demanding in exchange for keeping the government open for just one month.

The big ticket item is expanded Medicaid. That is, "free" health insurance / care for persons unable or unwilling to buy an Obamacare policy that meet a minimum income threshold. Note, that it is almost entirely BLUE states that went 'all in' on expanded Medicaid. Few red states chose to adopt the plan because they saw it would be unsustainable without massive tax increases in the long run. Blue, Democrat, states expected the subsidies to eventually be made permanent, as the Democrats have wanted and Schumer does now, but it isn't happening.

Thus, the Democrats are in a panic over the coming crash and burn their states will be in over the failure of Obamacare and why they're demanding $1.5 trillion in new spending.
