Should there be harsher penalties for illegal gun possession?

That's wrong on so many different levels I don't even know where to start. Consider reading a book and educating yourself on the subject matter.

Nope. Handguns and long guns are bought and registered in the same manner if things are done on the up and up. Every time, for instance, in OK, the OSBI is contacted for an immediate background check. My SSN is used to check my criminal background and I answer a questionnaire with various questions about my mental health and citizenship... The firearm is then registered in leaningright's name. That's the process every time. I've bought 6 firearms in the last 10 months. Same thing every time. No permits to own either type. I have not forfeited my rights via breaking the law thus I maintain my right to make such purchases and own the firearms.

you said ANY crime committed by a person that has an "illegal gun on them", even if the gun wasn't used in the commission of said crime, should be given life in prison. So you are saying if you rob a store for a couple of candy bars and you and have a gun in your belt you should be sentenced to life in prison. fuck you.
