Yes, we did. Last I checked, the Taliban is no longer the ruling regime in Afghanistan, and Saddam is in hell where he belongs. There is certainly room for argument as to whether the war in Iraq was necessary (I am on the fence), but to contend that neither country is better off than before the invasion is nothing short of deliberate, intellectual dishonesty. Moving on...

Sorry, but nowhere in the US Constitution does it require UN approval for invading another country. That power belongs exclusively to Congress:

US Constitution Article I, Section 8
The Congress shall have Power ... To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water.

Seems pretty clear cut to me.

I disagree that moderates will have "hard feelings" by us having a base there. They would have "hard feelings" if we had drones flying around all the time like you seem to be proposing.

They did not declare war, there was never a declaration of war from Congress.

There has only been declarations of war fives times in the USA and Iraq wasn't one of them. This was a war Bush declared, not Congress. They just gave him financing.

iraq and afghanistan were both constitutionally permissible, congress could have acted to stop the actions at a point, however, they consented by continued funding

He/she was responding to Voltaire's assertion that Congress DID declare war, with the authorization to use force.

You should try reading that.

Yes, as I have stated, there was no declaration of war, a resolution and funding, but not the same for those who use the fine line.
