Seeds of Contemporary Russiaphobia

Russia denys it, but it's clear they are supporting the separatist in eastern Ukraine ( not Kyiv / not all of Uk) but Luhansk & Donbas

"is it good" calls for a value judgement - is it understandable ,and do the people of the east
( with Russian language and Russian culture) support the war? I think this is the best resource I've found:

Disconnected society: how the war in the Donbas has affected Ukraine

Kuwait was once a province of Iraq and they are all Arabs and speak Arabic.

Cons bombed the shit out of Qaddafi
Smacked Assad up side the head
and got rid of Saddam.....

All progressive Hillary managed to do is get an ambassador killed along with 3 other Americans..then she and Obama did nothing....

Hillary Clinton, ‘Smart Power’ and a Dictator’s Fall

The president was wary. The secretary of state was persuasive. But the ouster of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi left Libya a failed state and a terrorist haven.

Speaking of Syria, why aren't you weeping and rending your garment about Putin's support of Assad and what he's doing to civilians in Syria?

It seems to me that a supposed peacenik like you who spent so much time and effort vilifying and crucifying Hillary Clinton as a war monger over her one Iraq vote as a Senator, would devote at least as much of your self righteous angst and fervor towards Trump's boss, Putin.

Oh wait, you'd get booted out of the St Petersburg Troll Farm, straight to Siberia if you ever tried something like that.

No more coffee and donuts in the break room.
Syria is a multi-faceted civil war.
It's simplistic "Assad must go" mantra ignores the question.. "and replaced by what?"

Assad is the devil we know. Do you want to exchange him for the devil we don't?

Ukraine was protected from both Russia and western territory grabs/meddling by Budapest Memorandum
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum_on_Security_Assurances

This?

Following the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation in 2014, the US,[6][7] Canada,[8] the UK,[9] along with other countries,[10] stated that Russian involvement was a breach of its obligations to Ukraine under the Budapest Memorandum, a Memorandum transmitted to the United Nations under the signature of Sergei Lavrov, amongst others,[11] and in violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity.

On 4 March 2014, the Russian president replied to a question on violation of Budapest Memorandum, describing current Ukrainian situation as a revolution, when "a new state arises, but with this state and in respect to this state, we have not signed any obligatory documents".

Russia stated it had never been under obligation to "force any part of Ukraine's civilian population to stay in Ukraine against its will." Russia suggested that the US was in violation of the Budapest Memorandum, describing the Euromaidan as a US-instigated coup.[

We have no control over what happened in Syria. The Europeans are stuck with 6 million Syrian refugees.

It's ironic to see you citing an opinion piece by Seumas Milne, noise. Do you know who he is? He's the right hand man of Jeremy Corbyn, the far leftist who took over the British Labour Party three years ago. I think Milne hasn't quite taken on board that Russia is no longer communist but quasi-fascist.

Btw, that piece was published in April 2014. Since then there have been internationally-monitored parliamentary and presidential elections in Ukraine which even Russia recognized as legitimate. So much for the neo-Nazi takeover, lol.

The elections were not held throughout Ukraine. During the 2014 Crimean crisis, Ukraine lost control over Crimea, which was unilaterally annexed by Russia in March 2014. As a result, elections were not held in Crimea.
In the Donbass region of Ukraine only 20% of the ballot stations were open due to threats and violence by pro-Russia separatists. Of the 2,430 planned ballot stations (in Donbass) only 426 remained open for polling. The self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic, controlling large parts of the Donbass, had vowed to do everything possible to disrupt the elections on their territory.[16]

Poroshenko will serve a five-year term in office.
the elections have no meaning in the east.
What do you think the Donbas war is about?

You completely miss the events described in the OP. It's much more then "elections".

Of course I know who the author is..You can find zillions of western propaganda that the Maiden was some organic revolution -clearly it is not. His writings are spot on -why I chose him for the OP

But for Bush's invasion of Iraq there would be no ISIS.
of course. but if it were not for Obama's calling them "JV" and ignoring their blitzkrieg across Iraq, when they were easily strafed by air power, they wouldn't have gobbled up large chunks of Iraq either..

why again is this relevant?

He was making them small.........

I don't give a damn why he was calling them - I do care that he completely missed the fact they were on a roll from Syria, and could have easily been stopped.

This was a turkey shoot: convoy of ISIS fighters in Anbar Province, Iraq, in January 2014

No they couldn't easily have been stopped.. and they still aren't stopped.. 10,000 of them have moved into Eastern Afghanistan.. and they still hold Ghouta.

the elections have no meaning in the east.

The internationally-monitored elections had no meaning in eastern Ukraine because that's where Putin fomented his uprising, supplied and directed from Russia. I was following it quite closely. There was separatist sentiment in Donbas, but the leaders of the "People's Republics" were previously unheard of - they came and went about once a month, and some who could be identified were not from Ukraine at all but from Russia.

What do you think the Donbas war is about?

Same as the 2008 war in Georgia (separatists there too, lol), the crushing of Chechnya, and the ongoing destabilization of the Baltics (numerous cyber attacks, no "People's Republics" so far).

Here's a clue: it's the guy who said "the collapse of the Soviet Union was a geopolitical disaster".

Of course I know who the author is. His writings are spot on -why I chose him for the OP

Milne, Corbyn and Co. are NOT friends of America. They are friends of Hamas, Hizbollah, Iran, you name it - because those folks are progressive and (same thing) anti-western.

But I think you know this. For some reason you have chosen to peddle their (and Putin's) propaganda.

Vladimir Putin, a middle-ranking KGB operative in 1991, sees Stalin as the greatest national hero of the last century and has said that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a “geopolitical disaster”.

Yours = 100%.

Why aren't you criticizing and vilifying Putin for supporting a butcher the way you vilified Hillary for casting one vote authorizing Bush to use the military against Iraq?

Putin could reign Assad in if he wanted to.

Or at least quit supporting him while he butchers and massacres his own people.

But you're a hypocrite so you don't.

Ghouta? what about Raqqa?
anyways that is Syria - you do see a convoy -right?
Now picture a strafing run against that convoy - what is the result? chewed up dead ISIS

Russia didn't get involved in Syria until 2014.. Now they want the Europeans to pay to rebuild Syria.. and they didn't take in any Syrian refugees.

We sure have a lot of pro-Russian posters on here.
