Russia denys it, but it's clear they are supporting the separatist in eastern Ukraine ( not Kyiv / not all of Uk) but Luhansk & Donbas
"is it good" calls for a value judgement - is it understandable ,and do the people of the east
( with Russian language and Russian culture) support the war? I think this is the best resource I've found:
