Oil Companies that drill offshore were granted a liability cap of $75,000,000.

So companies that are beholden to there shareholders can drill, baby, drill as recklessly as they want and know they will only have to pay a max of $75,000,000.00.

Caps on other types of liability will have the same effect.

Limiting liability limits the amount of responsabaility one can be forced to take.

Noone cares to discuss how the Cap affected the likelyhood of a spill?

Jarod, BP has already paid more than the cap in claims and has promised much more. Isn't that like 20 yrs old? Your a childish retard, stick to ambulance chasing.
Obama has this sticky glob for good, 69% say he's failing vs 62% on Bush in Katrina suck on that.

Itiot...

1) Just because a majority belives something does not make it correct.
2) Opinions fade so its a silly comparison.
3) Caps do promote illresponsablity.

4) DO YOU HAVE A CITE THAT BP HAS PAID OUT MORE THAN THE CAP, or did you just shit that out of your ass?

why don't you take this idea of total responsibility and apply it to criminals of all bents, like promoting the use of capital punishment.

Fuck you Jarod, it's in the papers here daily. Prob in you fantasy land papers in Fla too.

I agree with Jarod. I can't believe anyone is supporting the cap on liability. We made a big deal over some jackass who caused us to chase a balloon. This is FAR more damaging.

If we subsidize risk taking by corporations or individuals by limiting their personal losses when those risks go bad then we create a moral hazard.

BP and/or its partners should be sued until they are driven out of business or take care of their responsibility. There should be no cap, at all, on their liability.

Ahh, so you have nothing, just a general feeling that they must have paid out more than 75,000,000.00 already.

Hell, Id love to get a cap on my liability... I could try a lot of risky things...

It's not a gut feeling asswipe. I read an article this morning they have spent 60MM on claims and will pass the 75 by Friday. Most of the payments are to fisherman.
Your either not reading or being a typical party hack denying till it's impossible to ignore. The 75MM cap is a faux issue.

It's the first thing that I said that Obama should have done after beginning the cleanup. Instead he's attempting to pass cap and tax to kill our economy rather than working on getting rid of caps on liability, he's not working to cut through the red tape in order to get those scoops from Switzerland, and he's working on blaming Bush for his own failures. He's not even aware when the person who was in charge of the "change" in that particular agency gets fired... Seriously, he's uninformed, uncaring, pretensively "angry" after 60 days or more of his own failures and (a la Rahm Emanuel) he's not letting the "crisis" go by without "using" it to advance poor policy changes that have nothing to do with an effective cleanup.... *sigh*

Anyway, BP already said they were paying for all of it, and according to all I've heard they are well past that cap already. Shoot, they are even paying fishermen for killing their business before they had any lawsuits...

The cap issue is faux outrage by the left. The 10 billion has zero chance of passing. BP has committed to and will pass the 75MM this week.
Jarod is pittiful and I feel sorry for his clients paying a shallow dimmwitt fees for anythigng.

How is the article you read suggesting that 60,000,000 is 75,000,000? Do you have a cite for that article?

BP also said that they were only leaking 1000 barrels a day, but no outrage at BP from you... Just at President Obama. Your colors are showing.

I've shown outrage at BP since day 1.
I said skull drag them and make SE LA people the new owners of thier wallet.
1,000 deepwater wells have been drilled without this happening to others.
That proves it can be done safely, do we need more regs and response capability? Obviously.
But I'm attacking aholes who throw the blanket over the industry. Moron

Rubbish. I was here, you were busy being uninformed and missing from the conversation until Yesterday.

Your ignorance of my opinion (shoot, ANYBODY'S opinion on this subject that's been expressed on the board for the past weeks) should make you pause before you attempt to criticize it. Geebus, we've already covered all your questions 7 times over and you come in here acting like you are some sort of messiah. Quit it. Read the board and catch up before you start in on questions like, "What do you think Obama should have done?"! We've already covered that.

The reason I am against it is that 1/1,000 is not good enough of a safety record when you are looking at this kinda mess from the one.

Sure you Oil appologists want to blame President Obama because that way the mess is due to him and not the fact that if one rig out of a thousand has this problem even once in a 30 year period its still a disaster of huge proportions. Its the same problem with nuclear power.

1 hundreth of a percent is not good enough. LOFL
Leave your faux outrage in your car next time you fill up. Your convictions are as week as your faux outrage.

Using your scenario, every major business in the US should be closed.
Cars have been found with major defects.
Buildings have been found with major defects.
Food has killed people.
Utilities have failed.
People have died in hospitals, being treated for minor ailments.
Lawyers have failed their clients.
etc
etc
etc
