One the whole it is, but science is also wrong a lot. Science has also been used in the name of evil as well. Then there's science as fraud--often deliberate fraud and often for political purposes.

So, when science says something, pull out this because you're going to need it.

Just because a "scientist" says it doesn't necessarily make it true. Question and triple check their answers.

Science is neither False nor True. It is just a set of falsifiable theories. No theory is ever proven True. A theory can be shown to be False.
You are correct in pointing out that science is not a scientist. It is not even people at all. It is just the falsifiable theories themselves.

There are now 3 studies related to masks, all w/ the same conclusion. And we have pretty clear anecdotal evidence from areas where there has been more compliance w/ mask wearing, as well.

And it's a fairly universal recommendation from the healthcare & medical communities right now. No one is cherrypicking anything.

Only somebody who is highly biased has to have this proved to them. And with such strong bias it is predictable they will not accept proof.

And this is such an absurd thing to make a political stand on.

Would they mock the surgical team in the OR if they need an operation for wearing PPE?

A pointless claim. Blind forums like this mean that any claim of credentials is completely pointless. To make an issue of them is actually a bulverism fallacy. It is the argument presented that matters, not any credential behind it (if any!).

They don't get this. No matter how many times it's explained to them. We come upon a rock in the road. Science says 'I don't know what's under that rock until I can look under it and examine what I find'. Religion says 'God is under the rock. No need to look. You must have faith'. Every time we turn over a new rock, we learn from it. Religion never learns. No matter how many times we don't find God under there, they keep giving the same answer'.

Science isn't 'looking under rocks'. Science is a set of falsifiable theories. Those theories can come from anywhere, but they MUST be falsifiable. Non-falsifiable theories are not theories of science. Science does not use supporting evidence, while religion does. Science does not use consensus, while religion and politics does. Science has no proofs, for it is an open functional system. Religions are all based on some initial circular argument (also known as the argument of faith). That in and of itself is not a fallacy, but trying to prove a circular argument as True IS. This is what a fundamentalist does. Fundamentalists exist in every religion.

Real Estate people do know real estate...and know about marketing real estate. I was a real estate salesperson for lots of years.

Bartenders know how to tend a bar. Lots more to tending bar than just making drinks and opening beers. I was a bartender for lots of years also.

I also was a Catholic at one time.

Now I am not a real estate salesman; a bartender; or a Catholic.

Things change.

As the OP states...science is a good thing, even if it occasionally is abused.

When it is abused, it is not science. Science 'abuse' denies science.

I did use a Real Estate agent once to buy a house! Worst decision, I ever made.
Then I used one again to sale that same house! Lost money both ways!

I have not used them since.

Real estate people are a middleman- an overhead, that the world can do without.

Those middlemen can be useful. It's tough to find a good agent tho.

What we object to is the insistence that the rest of us don't look under there either, and don't teach our kids to look as well.
