School Prayer...

I do not believe our schools should be a platform/podium/pulpit for ANY specific religious faith or belief. I also do not think our schools should be scoured of anything pertaining to religious belief. I think there is a happy medium with regard to what is acceptable, and what is unacceptable, and I believe individual communities should have the FREEDOM and right to decide this for themselves.

And you still didn't answer.

When would the voluntary, school employee led prayer take place?

What would those kids who didn't want to pray be doing while this was going on?

And lets add one more. Who will decide the prayer that will be said?

What religion is non-denominational?
None of them...

However a non-denominational prayer doesn't mention a name. Usually they would be something like... "The Creator" (as mentioned in founding documents) or some other innocuous name that can fit within any religion. Such prayers are usually unsatisfying to the believer, but they are what they are. A prayer mentioning Allah and Mohamed using "pbuh" and all that rot would not be considered non-denominational.

He is correct.

So Damo, do you belive that school employees should be allowed to lead volentary prayers?

Do you belive that is promoting an establishment of religen?

Nah, a believer teacher leading an after-school club that includes such things would not be promoting the establishment of a religion. However, I don't think the school day should be mucked up with mandatory time for "voluntary" anything. Let it all happen in post curricular times. If you want to play football for the school, it should be on your time, if you want to be in the prayer club it should as well.

It would still need 2/3 of the Congress and 3/4 of the States. It wouldn't pass.

Ohh, I agree, I was merely pointing out that Reagan was promoting it... and that social conservatives are less conservative than they used to be.

We are moving from darkness to light!

From Conservative to Liberal!

I am okay with it if the teacher is not doing it during school hours and is not being paid to do it by the government.

That would make it constitutional, in my opinion.

In order to include all religions, the prayer would necessarily have to be so vague as to be worthless for anyone's faith.

Why is it that so many people demand a public display of faith and prayer?

If a teacher leads 100 students in a prayer, will it be heard more clearly by God than if 101 people silently pray?

Someone help me out, but isn't there a biblical parable about the rich man praying loudly and making a fuss, while the poor man prayed quietly and earnestly?

You would not need an amendment for that!

So, am I correct that except for Dixie, noone here would be in favor of Reagans Constitutional Amendment?
