Ukraine has Russia on the run. All Russia has is a decreasing supply of cruise missiles. They cannot keep the land that they took. They abandoned weapons and ammo that the Ukrainas will be giving back to them soon. In a conventional war against the US Russia would last about 15 minutes.

When Putin took Crimea, I wondered why we just stood back and let it happen. I know that we were in a Russia reset, and the desire to start an extended war that might end in nukes wasn't exactly desirable. We imposed sanctions that didn't hurt enough to change anything for the most part.

I wonder if Putin believed that the world would back down once he started his empty threats this time around?

He had to believe that even though NATO wouldn't put boots on the ground, the majority of the world would back Ukraine.
