too long ago, but that's not the gist of the sentence. republicans during the first bush term tried to portray themselves as 'conservative' and liberals couldn't say the term 'neocon' enough, so the perception at the beginning was that congress was a conservative congress. supposedly.

These folks were hardly conservatives, hence the lie that I exposed.

The author said " Under Bush and a supposedly conservative Congress,...". So he was saying that the congress was not actually conservative but only claimed to be. So there was no lie to be exposed.

But the point of the article is about the need for fiscal conservatives to call bullshit on this idea that they must also be social conservatives. Social conservatives offer nothing positive to the nation. Our top priority is to get fiscal matters under control. Wasting time on a constitutional amendment defining marriage, prayer in schools, and trying to stop public schools from teaching the theory of evolution is not what we need.

Like Mott said, "Freedom and liberty will win out every time and gays aren't going back in the closet".

if you're talking about the republican and democrat lie that congress was conservative, i agree. If you're still saying that gillespie is lying when he says 'supposedly' conservative congress, well you're just wrong.

I am not reading any talking points, I am looking at what these tearrorists were able to do in the debt limit debate, which YOU SUPPORT. WHERE is your outrage at their tearrorism?

Don't you see that the Tea Party has been corupted by Palin, Beck, Hannity, Bachmon and many others?

They have become a laughing stock about the entire world.

They clearly and vocaly represent just the top one percent, not you and I.

There may be good intentions at the core, and the road to hell is paved with good intentions, as proven by the democrats.

The Tea Party name has been absconded and wasted. Time to start over. Your continued support of the current bearers of the Tea Party banner discredits you and any others with genuine resolve.

if you want to label me a terrorist because I support fiscal responsibility, so be it. that plan was the ONLY plan that would have saved our economy long term. all you appeasers did was extend an already troubled recovery and ensured a double dip recession.

don't let your obtuseness hide the fact that you know shit about fiscal responsibility.

Gillespie's states in the title that his critique is of conservatives, so critiquing a "supposedly conservative" congress as a critique of conservatives is a lie.

Was the article aimed at a critique of the "supposedly conservative congress"? Or was it aimed at those conservatives who claim that you cannot be a conservative without being both fiscally and socially conservative?

There was no lie. Arguing a minor point like this, when anyone with a grasp of the english language can see you are wrong, is just petty.

what you are seeing is nothing more than lamestream media hype (including foxnews) to portray the original TEA party motivations as your 'laughingstock'. the core TEA party groups don't support palin or beck and bachmann is still a suspect. hannity was NEVER involved, as much as he'd like to be, but more to the point, it's the establishment left and right that desperately need YOU and everyone else to sincerely believe the image of the TEA party as they represent it.
