Ronald Reagan: A Simple Man Who So Nearly Destroyed Us

I don't think paranoia had much to do w/ it, but I also don't think popular opinion at any given time, about anything, is validation for anything other than "this is what most people thought at the time."

I agree. So what did most people think of Reagan at that time?

They thought he was a good/great leader. They liked his vision and they liked the direction the country was going in. This nonsense that Reagan almost led us to WWIII (especially by the justifications given in the OP article) is absurd.

because reagan actually "communicated" with the american people. obama only communicates to his lefty base.

No, he didn't communicate to the American people, he communicated to the people who believed the same way he did, I never liked Reagan, didn't think his speeches were all the great, and still don't. I thought he was a second rate actor turned president. He was never brought to task for his crimes, nor was his administration who was later turned loose to create the GW Bush administration and that is one we will be recovering from for a long time to come. This idol worship of Reagan is lost on me and always has been. I just think Iran Contra and it pretty much leaves a bad taste in my mouth!

He was once, trying to carve a plastic turkey! The decision to go to Iraq by Bush was because there was a Bush in Iraq before him  and Cheney, Wolfie, Rummy and Dummy didn't like the end results of the first Bush Iraq attack, so they wanted to go in and rescue the oil!:clink:

wow.... you are starting to go off the deep end.

The 'first Bush attack'??? LMAO... that was a UN led effort to remove Saddam from Kuwait.

Quit revising history.

They thought he was better than Carter or Mondale.

Yay.

Where are you getting that voter turnout for the '08 election was the highest in at least 40 years? I haven't looked anything up yet but hasn't our population grown astronomically over the past 40 years? I may be off but I can't imagine we had more people voting in 1968 or anytime prior than we did in 2008.

Probably based on percentages of voting population, is my guess.

Wanna, bet, I bet he is better off the cuff than some other presidents I won't mention.

Obama is certainly better than many other Presidents. Ford, Bush Jr. are two that quickly come to mind.

But when Obama is compared to Clinton and Reagan, he is no where close to being in their league.

I don't think much of Reagan, you don't like Obama, our opinions are going to differ.

There will always be a part of America that despises Reagan. That won't change.

The FACT is that he did communicate with the American people in general. That is why he beat Carter and destroyed Mondale.

But do keep on trying to revise history. Reagan had his faults to be sure. But he was one of the most effective Presidents in the past 100 years.
