In this republic, the majority cannot vote away the freedoms of the minority. But Blue Laws do just that. The majority has decided to make laws determining whether a business can open on certain special religious days, regardless of the religious beliefs of the business owner or the business customers.

Uhm, I hate to break it to you, but YES we are a democracy. Not a "pure" democracy, because our system of government is set up as a representative republic, but on a local and state level, we're pretty much a democratic society, and always have been.

You are correct, the majority can't vote away Constitutional freedoms, that is because of the Constitution. Blue Laws do not do that. There is no Constitutional freedom to buy, sell, or even consume alcoholic beverages. Again, as I pointed out in the other thread, we make all kinds of laws based on morality, regarding trade. Drugs, prostitution, slavery, pedophilia, are all illegal because of the issue of morality, and nothing more.
