Don't "misunderestimate" Trump.

Trump might not like to be seen dropping Kav like a hot potato.

BUT !!

Trump might not mind being seen as compassionate enough to:

- accept Kavanaugh's withdrawal, because Judge Kavanaugh has requested to be dropped from the spotlight, to spare his family any further trauma -

IF !!

Trump can find a replacement that's even more Wrong Wing than Kav.

Trump is if nothing else an opportunist.

It's difficult to imagine Judge Kavanaugh being promoted to Justice Kavanaugh.

Trump can't do what you've suggested he may.

The USSC appointments are the only thing that as of now can't be undone, Kavanaugh has to go in and quick or the Trump Presidency is a failure.

For those that missed it, I was suggesting that Kavanaugh withdraw.

I don't believe it's illegal to withdraw, after having accepted.

Why do I disbelieve?

Appointment to SCOTUS is a lifetime appointment. Some volunteer to retire. Others stay in office until they drop dead.

So far as I know, they can resign from the office any time they like, including the same day they're sworn in.

And if that's the case, it would be ridiculous to have a rule that a nominee can't withdraw. So I'm guessing either you've been misinformed, or you've misinterpreted the parameters of my suggestion.
