It is not that they have anything in common with him, rather, they are sick of the current establishment and want a business person to fix the economy so they overlook the fact he is a kook.

I think he is a proxy middle finger.

There are a very large amount of angry voters that feel very disenfranchised and completely ignored/taken advantage of.

This is why when the media proves Trump is lying, the voters don't care. Or if he says something super controversial (even to normal republican ears) he remains unscathed. This is why when trump gets into the gutter, they love it, but when rubio adopts trumps same strategy, it absolutely tanks his campaign.

You'll notice Rubio adopted the same type of schoolyard tactics, and it just made him look like an even smaller candidate. Why does it work for Trump and not Rubio? It's because he is just a stand-in for frustration. It doesn't matter what he says or what he believes, because they aren't voting for a candidate, they are using him to send a message.

I think republicans are just ready to burn the whole fucking place down, they want to give a giant fuck you to liberals, political correctness, the party establishment, everyone. I don't even think it's about winning. The very fact that they can get someone talking about banning muslims, building a wall, and having them being a major candidate is enough for them. It's sort of like telling all of america that "Hey, we are out there.. we still have large numbers and we fucking hate you.. and we are still capable of maybe even winning the election.."

By nominating trump they make a lot of people out there feel disgusted and possibly even legitimately afraid. I think that's their ultimate goal.

The problem with that argument is that the people who are running against her are far more disliked than she is. Rural angry white guys don't make up all the electorate. Trump has alienated latinos, blacks, Asians, immigrants (the legal variety who can vote...like my wife) and women. I've seen lice that are more likeable than Ted Crus and Jeb Bush has the personality and likability of an unsalted cracker who's popularity is comparable to Clintons.

The data is real clear. Hillary would defeat Trump and she would crush Cruz who would be lucky to win 7 to 10 States. The only true conservative still in the race with a record of actually accomplishing anything in Government isn't getting any traction and Kasich is the only one out of the whole GOP circus wagon that is electable nationally and Kasich is nothing to sing about really. Those are some cold hard facts you ought to consider.

If I was to rate the remaining candidates from first to worst it would be;

#1. Kasich
#2. Sanders
#3. Clinton
#4. Trump
#5. Cruz

and I would stay at home before I would vote for Ted Cruz. A Cruz Presidency would guarantee 4 years of complete government gridlock and an utterly dangerous and irresponsible foreign policy that would get us into another war.

Excellent summary on redneck populism. It's not about having a better government. It's a "burn the whole fucking thing down if we can't have it our way.".

What makes me shake my head is for years they have been told that the GOP Party establishment has been taking them for granted as uneducated hicks to be ignored once in office and they have not only done that, they have proactively implemented legislation that harms their economic interest. For years people have been telling them that with the usual response of "Fuck you liberal". Now...they have finally realized the extent to which they have been screwed by the GOP establishment over the years and now they are pissed and for many of them, that comes to late.

The problem is, they are not offering and viable alternative. Just burn baby burn.

My list would be:

Cruz - Religiosity aside I find his "repeal the IRS" and flat tax ideas appealing.
Sanders - I don't agree with him on most things but I like that he's principled, and he's good on civil liberties and being against wars
Trump - Mostly for troll factor, also I think rhetoric aside he's probably be a moderateish president once it came down to it.
Kasich - default 4th place. He's gil from the simpsons
Clinton - Hope she dies in a fire

It's important to note I am dealing with a list of shitty candidates, I am not a cruz fan at all.
