Rep. Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House

You should hope he does since it ensures a Democrat win in November 2024. :)

I'm hoping he takes more sane approach away from Trumpism and that he does support the fight against despots and criminals like Putin, Kim, Xi and Hamas.

You might be right. Clinton's support strengthened after his impeachment, and he was re-elected. It's possible the same might be true if America thinks Biden's being unjustly persecuted by a nutjob Special Counsel like Starr. The GOP is sure to appoint one.

You are wrong. Gaetz was talking about how he'd give this guy more lee way than he gave McCarthy.

And so there will be a Kum-bah-ya moment with Biden's agenda? I do not think so. Aid to Ukraine will not happen - the Dems will never agree to that - there will be a nutjob special counsel appointed to impeach Biden for whatever.. it's gonna be a mess.

But... having said all that - I sure hope I am wrong and you are correct.

It would be idiocy to assume any Republican elected would be drinking Biden bathwater like a Democrat. I simply tell you that some temporary compromise is likely and expected by even Gaetz.

My prediction and I hope I'm wrong: There will be a government shutdown as soon as the temporary stay expires and there will be gridlock for months to come. This guy was elected because he cut a deal to oppose whenever Biden and the Dems try to do.

Please tell me I'm wrong. I really want to be wrong.
That guarantees a Democratic Party victory in November. When was the last time Republican government shutdown worked for them?

You're wrong. Keep the faith.

Americans, especially American businesses, want stability, not chaos. Government shutdowns and debt defaults are chaos.

I love optimism. Keep 'er goin'! My sense is today's GOP house is at the mercy of the nutjob few who want to tear everything down and value "likes" on Twitter more than doing what's right for the American people.

Again - I love your optimism.

Yay, I would love to be wrong on this one! I do not want America to be doomed. J6 demonstrated how vulnerable our Democracy is.

In spite of American businesses being opposed to shutdowns we've had a couple. If past is prologue, we're headed for another.

The courts disagree with you, as do Republicans in the states where the votes were questioned. Time to move on.

not all of them.....time for Biden to move out......posing as a real president for four years is enough.....2024 will be a constitutional election......Biden doesn't have a chance......

The House has a new Speaker.

Who is Rep. Mike Johnson, the House GOP’s latest speaker nominee?
Rep. Mike Johnson, Republicans’ latest nominee to be the next speaker of the House, has been a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump and was a key congressional figure in the failed efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

The Louisiana Republican was first elected to the House in 2016 and serves as vice chairman of the House Republican Conference, as well as GOP deputy whip, an assistant leadership role. An attorney with a focus on constitutional law, Johnson joined a group of House Republicans in voting to sustain the objection to electoral votes on January 6, 2021. During Trump’s first impeachment trial in January 2020, Johnson, along with a group of other GOP lawmakers, served a largely ceremonial role in Trump’s Senate impeachment team....

...Johnson serves on the Judiciary Committee and the Armed Services Committee. He is also a former chair of the Republican Study Committee.

After receiving a degree in business administration from Louisiana State University and a Juris Doctorate from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Johnson took on roles as a college professor and conservative talk radio host. He began his political career in the Louisiana legislature, where he served from 2015 to 2017, before being elected to Congress in Louisiana’s Fourth District.

I had a sneaky hunch he would get the job. Now the GOP has something they’ve never had before. A Big Johnson.

As long as as long as it's never Hakeem Jeffries .. how embarrassing ...what a horrible person...

ROTFLMAO! How much do you want to bet that this virtually assures Jeffries is the next SOH? LOL

That is if Johnson makes it even as far as the 2024 election. LOL
