Rep. Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House

Matt Gaetz was on TV and stated it’s not likely to happen with Johnson, because the only reason he brought the vote against McCarthy was because, McCarthy broke his promise to both the Caucus and Democrats. He was acting all, work across the aisle, future Governor of Florida reasonable. He just feels like a snake in the grass to me.
Gaetz is a criminal awaiting a conviction.

Despite Gaetz pushing McCarthy out and all the hootin' and hollerin' by the RWNJs that it's the Democrat's fault, the fact it took the Republicans 3 weeks to pick a Speaker speaks for itself.

Their Party is greatly divided and I doubt the wounds will heal very soon.

It'll be fun to find out which direction he, and the House Republicans, choose to go.

Other that shutting down the government at budget time, what direction can he and they possibly go?

His majority certainly isn't going to get any of its partisan bills signed.
He'll never see sixty senate votes to get them even as far as Biden's desk.

Is he going to try to impeach Biden again?
Even if he succeeds, the dog racing results from West Virginia
get more headlines than ho hum House impeachments anymore.

The House has a new Speaker.

Who is Rep. Mike Johnson, the House GOP’s latest speaker nominee?
Rep. Mike Johnson, Republicans’ latest nominee to be the next speaker of the House, has been a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump and was a key congressional figure in the failed efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

The Louisiana Republican was first elected to the House in 2016 and serves as vice chairman of the House Republican Conference, as well as GOP deputy whip, an assistant leadership role. An attorney with a focus on constitutional law, Johnson joined a group of House Republicans in voting to sustain the objection to electoral votes on January 6, 2021. During Trump’s first impeachment trial in January 2020, Johnson, along with a group of other GOP lawmakers, served a largely ceremonial role in Trump’s Senate impeachment team....

...Johnson serves on the Judiciary Committee and the Armed Services Committee. He is also a former chair of the Republican Study Committee.

After receiving a degree in business administration from Louisiana State University and a Juris Doctorate from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Johnson took on roles as a college professor and conservative talk radio host. He began his political career in the Louisiana legislature, where he served from 2015 to 2017, before being elected to Congress in Louisiana’s Fourth District.

He'll be known as Maga Johnson.

Far enough Right to drive away the Independent voters.

I like it when both sides, mine included,
go so far to their respective fringes
that the Independents throw their hands up in disgust and stay home.
Some will vote for obscure non-major candidates who won't win a single electoral vote.

Just as I don't understand moderate solutions for very immoderate problems,
I honestly confess to not understanding Independents either.
They're not neutral.
They're essentially a thankfully, to this point, at least, ineffectual second opponent.

Whichever side gets it's actual, highly partisan base the most agitated
will win.
I've stopped making predictions.

When have the Independents ever stayed home?

When neither party represents your interests, then it's in your interests to always vote for the challenger in every election to keep those in power off balance.

I can't reasonably argue about that which I haven't experienced.
Let me give you that point up front.

Nobody ever represents my interests sufficiently,
but the Democratic candidate has always come the closest, this including minor candidates.

Invariably, the Republican nominee represents core values that are completely repugnant to me.

Thus, maybe you can make a reasonable argument for your voting practices

but assuming those practices for myself would be self-destructive.

As for Independents voting or staying home, I wouldn't know how to determine that.
I don't know any independents in the non-cyber-world.

You made the claim. I was curious about whence it came.

Again, Oom, you must remember that I'm a literalist.

I like it when that happens.

I don't claim that it's a common phenomenon.
It could very well be, but I honestly don't know
what independent voter turnout is typically like.

How do we know that?
Perhaps you know.

Again, Oom, you must remember that I'm a literalist.
You're free to call yourself whatever you want, neef, but you are not free to make others believe you.

FWIW, you strike me as more of a revisionist. Changing the world in your mind to fit the way you want it to be.

FWIW, you strike me as more of a revisionist. Changing the world in your mind to fit the way you want it to be.

Am I supposed to assume that those who don't believe me are relevant?
I've never offered anything to suggest that.

I'm hardly a revisionist.
I fully acknowledge that the world is not how I'd like it to be and never has been.

I've simply explained that it not being how I'd like it to be
is why it's such a shit show.

I've also explained why trying to change it to suit me
is a more honorable endeavor than trying to adapt to it.

Some things are unattainable
but striving relentlessly to attain them anyway
is the only way to precipitate any improvement at all.

Compromise is often a road to nowhere
and not the initiative of the ideologically pure.

This is so fucking depressing.

I'm curious to see which direction he moves after this. Will he be a uniter or a divider?

My prediction and I hope I'm wrong: There will be a government shutdown as soon as the temporary stay expires and there will be gridlock for months to come. This guy was elected because he cut a deal to oppose whenever Biden and the Dems try to do.

Please tell me I'm wrong. I really want to be wrong.

You are wrong. Gaetz was talking about how he'd give this guy more lee way than he gave McCarthy.
