We hypothesize that the risk of violence is affected by the ‘gain-loss’ utility of game outcomes around a rationally expected reference point. Our empirical analysis uses police reports of violent incidents on Sundays during the professional football season. Controlling for the pre-game point spread and the size of the local viewing audience, we find that upset losses (defeats when the home team was predicted to win by 4 or more points) lead to a 10 percent increase in the rate of at-home violence by men against their wives and girlfriends. In contrast, losses when the game was expected to be close have small and insignificant effects. Upset wins (when the home team was predicted to lose) also have little impact on violence, consistent with asymmetry in the gain-loss utility function. The rise in violence after an upset loss is concentrated in a narrow time window near the end of the game, and is larger for more important games. We find no evidence for reference point updating based on the halftime score

No doubt he's aware of some of his dishonesty and feels justified to lie since that's what his Orange Jesus does. Yes, he's a staunch Trump supporter.

OTOH, I give allowances to people I feel have mental or cognitive issues. A major question being "If a person truly believes a falsehood, are they intentionally lying or only mentally impaired?

The demographics of JPP is primarily over-60 Euro-American males. Yours truly included. JPP members also self-select by "choosing sides", posting rates, time spent online and time spent on JPP and whether to utilize socks. Over time, these choices define a person's inclinations, educational levels and both emotional and mental stability.

My professional expertise involved 40 years of assessing people for fitness and, for those who aren't fit, either counseling them, processing them for treatment or, if necessary, to be terminated from their position. The experience, when applied to JPP, gives me an edge in identifying people who are "normal" versus those with mental issues, cognitive deterioration*, or just plain stupid.

IMHO, Teflon Don is a combination of cognitive decline and never very smart to begin with. :)
