Raise The Minimum Wage!

We all have to start somewhere. Minimum wage jobs were never meant to be family support type of jobs. They usually were jobs for teens, and new comers to the work force to get them used to the fundamentals of working. My suggestion to those unhappy with their current jobs, are to further their skills, or education so that they can move out of minimum wage.

if that is true, then why are there so many older people working at fast food restaurants and other low wage jobs?

bummer

Denmark is not comparable to the US as far as systems go. Much different metrics when you are talking the sheer size of the US population v. Denmark.

Aside from scale, what is not comparable? Why is "flexicurity" possible in Denmark and not the United States?

Probably just enough so that profit margins remain the same. I mean, it's not like the owners are going to voluntarily take a pay cut. But in the same vein you'll effectively be paying managers and higher echelon people less, because their dollar will not have the purchasing power is once did, and they didn't get a pay raise.

again, how much will raising the minimum wage increase the cost of food relative to the increase?

in today's job market, many people are underemployed and working minimum wage jobs just to keep households together with every household member age 16 and above working

Why do conservatives hate poor people?

the irony in that statement is that while raising the minimum wage would help those poor people who are able to get a job it will make it harder for those without work to find it which isn't exactly "helping" them.

Well scale and population size are pretty relevant things in the first place, so ignoring them isn't the best idea. Being a small nation allows them to operate a comparatively large government (for its population) more easily than we could. This in turn allows them to better focus on governmental luxuries.

Why are you asking for a concrete number when you haven't fucking supplied one for the wage increase? I already said, it will increase the price of goods to the point where the wage increase was meaningless.

Raise your work standards, instead!

Damn Communist....

Because they went straight from high school to work in a factory on an assembly line, a "skill" that is no longer needed....?

More like those are the only places that will hire them at that age. It's sad they have to work to make ends meet.

Yet those people are so nice to deal with, friendly, thoughtful and with a real work ethic. I'll take a senior at McD's over a surly teenager any day of the week.

Yeah, damn shame people have to work. Everything should just be free. Of course, heaven forbid they planned for retirement when young, or learned a skill that does not require physical labor and thus can still be practiced in old age. We should just give them money.

It would have to be the same relative percent, where else would money come from, thin air? You guys amaze me, you act like we can increase the cost of labor, and prices are just going to stay the same, the money just comes from wherever... out of the profits or something? You don't know, you don't care... you just want to scream and holler about the injustice of someone making minimum wage. I think it's a good illustration as to why we shouldn't have ever established a minimum wage to start with. There's no end with you people, you will continue on and on... no matter how high we raise the minimum wage... it's NEVER going to be enough!

I think what we should do is just ABOLISH it! That's right! Do away with it altogether! It's obviously not doing what it was supposed to do, you're obviously not content with leaving it alone, it's never going to be raised high enough for Liberals... so let's just go back to what we did before we had it?

People have no idea anymore what they are worth, much less what they are not worth.

Like I say, I think we should seriously consider abolishing the minimum wage. At least then, when they whine and moan, they'll have some good reason for it. If we gotta listen to the incessant whining and moaning, it might as well be over something relevant, that's my thinking. In the meantime, think of all the jobs it would create instantly?
