I don't know what isotopes are at issue here, but I gather a 5,000 year half-life is probably closer to the fact.

16/12/22 Radio Report: President Elect Trump intends to increase the U.S. nuclear arsenal

Sadly, this is a scale of mindlessness that dwarfs the most fanciful fairytale.

The lone report did not disclose what President Elect Trump perceives the U.S. will gain; that we do not already possess in more than ample quality & quantity with our current nuclear triad.

Perhaps Trump thinks he can chisel enough "savings" from Boeing on the replacement AF-1's to pay for a new, post Cold War nuclear arms race with Russian bromance partner Vladypoot.

It took major diplomatic maneuvering to scale back the Cold War nuclear arsenal liabilities the superpowers had burdened themselves with.

Just what is it President Elect Trump hopes to accomplish this way?

$NOTE$:
Not to dismiss the initial $cost which depending on the scale of the build up could run into many $hunrdeds of $billions.

BUT !!

Then there are the maintenance costs. Once we buy they, we will have to pay to:
- store them
- train military specialists to fire them
- maintain them, and eventually
- safely destroy them (without creating a radioactive nightmare)

I don't have all the details.
but it appears President Elect Trump has skipped his first cog, and he's still nearly a month away from inauguration.

Stock your fallout shelters.
It won't help. But your few remaining days on Earth may at least be a little less worrisome.

I just recently watched a doc. on tv about our nuclear arsenal....the military can't find anyone making 8 in. floppy disks to use in their computers....8 freakin' inch floppy disks !

that goes to the 'quality' of our arsenal, which puts into question to 'quantity' that is capable of actually being operational....

The GAO report says that U.S. government departments spend upwards of $60 billion a year on operating and maintaining out-of-date technologies.
That's three times the investment on modern IT systems.

The vintage isn't as important as the design life expectancy.
If they're good for 500 years, that's fine.
If they expired 30 years ago, ... "Houston, we have a problem."

8 in' floppies were obsolete by the early 1980's, so the fault can be laid at the feet of every president since then,
including Reagan for this oversight.....

I might fault the supply sergeant.

Inventory some spares.

But it's not rocket surgery.

Alright. It's rocket surgery.

But all they have to do is input data values. They can do that with technology available today.

If they have to custom build an interface, so be it.

Will it be worse than the $2,000.oo toilet seats that made headlines in the previous millennium?

It will be a boom to the economy if he just replaces the defense system that Barry has dismantled over the past 8 years while other world powers continue to technically advance their defenses. Everything that Barry has done has been done with one purpose in mind...the promotion and protection of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Hey, stupid fuck Ralphie. We're already in the middle of a trillion dollar modernization from the Obama administration

Both Russia and the U.S. are already engaged in large-scale programs to modernize their nuclear arsenals, which still often rely on Cold War-era systems. It was unclear if Trump's tweet simply indicated support for the American side of these efforts or if he was calling for more.

President Obama has been a vocal advocate of nuclear arms control, hosting four international summits on nuclear proliferation in his tenure, but he has had little success in deepening cooperation with Russia on the issue. Moscow boycotted the last summit amid a climate of exceptional hostility with the U.S.

Putin made it clear to reporters that he looked forward to an improvement of relations with the incoming Trump administration.

"Mr. Trump said during the election campaign there would be no further exacerbation because it was already worse than ever, and I agree with him,” Putin said. “Together we will think on ways to achieve an improvement."

He also laughed off accusations from U.S. intelligence agencies that Russia had interfered in the U.S. election.

“The losing side always looks for those to blame on the outside,” Putin said. “They’re losing on all fronts. All fronts," he said referring to the Democratic Party and the Obama administration.

It may be unclear what he meant.
President Obama is credited with a ~$Trillion $dollar upgrade of the U.S. military nuclear arsenal.

BUT !!

That's already in process.

Sources such as: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/dec/22/donald-trump-tweets-expand-nuclear-weapons

call for the US to 'greatly strengthen and expand' our U.S. military arsenal.

The irony of this, whether Trump knows it or not; is that both Russia and the U.S. have been working since the Cold War to REDUCE our nuclear weapons inventories.
They're more of a liability than a security blanket.

Apparently Trump imagines thermonuclear weapons to have some magical powers, which they assuredly do not.

"He's not a war hero.
He is a war hero.
He's a war hero because he was captured.
I like people that weren't captured. OK?" Donald Trump: July 2015 seeking the Republican nomination for the 2016 presidential race
Donald J Trump is clearly not fit for the high office he is about to enter. Humanity is in extreme danger.
